So I started Paleo about 2 weeks ago and will start the third week in a couple of days. At first, I felt more energy and a clearer mind, but the last few days I've just been crashing pretty bad. I assume that this is me adapting to burning fat instead of carbs? I also seem to be gaining some weight (or so the mirror says) and still get very hungry between meals or if I eat a little late. Here are two different days of what I've eaten. Exercise wise, I started p90x at the same time as going Paleo but stopped when I had absolutely no energy to do it. I do walk everyday around campus and to/from classes so I'm not completely sedentary. I am 6', age 21, 180-190lbs (I have no scale) and according to a BMI calc my BMI 25.8 (at 190lbs). Also, here is a list of what I ate for two different days. Some of it was just guestimates of how much I ate and probably ate a little more/less of some things. I've read a bunch on this site and others and have learned a lot but would like personal advice from people on how I am doing so far. I know it's only been a couple weeks, but any advice as to whether or not I'm at a good start or need to change anything would be great. Thanks a bunch.
Yep Carbs too high if you want to be keto adapted mode (which I think you meant fat burning mode) Metabolic change takes 3 to 6 weeks, some days during the change you may feel a decrease in performance, but once you do the switch over everything will be cool. Do you want to go into ketosis? if so you will have to drop your carbs to under 50g and keep your protein under 80 (try to stay under 25g per meal), remember protein can be converted into glucose, also your body can't use more anything above 30? (i know the limit is like 30-35, the rest is wasted) so it may keep you from going ketonic add more good fats, preferably short chain triglycerides (SCT) like butter (from pastured cows) and medium chain triglycerides (MCT) like Coconut Oil, the long chain triglycerides (LCT) use a little more sparingly (olive oils) long chains are more readily stored as fat, rather than MCTs or SCTs. If you fry stuff, fry with Coconut oil, people use olive oil but its a medium heat oil, could go rancid is subjected to high heat, I personally only use beef/pork tallow (fat) and Coconut oil to fry stuff with. While your doing this you will want to increase our salt intake (using celtic or himalayan salt) as you still start to lose water and the salt will help you maintain minerals. DON'T use regular table salt you get at the market. Kick back on the cardio and just work on weight training. I am 5' 8" 160 lbs (was 190) I stay under 50 carbs, 70 protein max (on weight training days) and 50 g on rest days, I must consume maybe 100+ grams of fat? So eat enough fat to satisfy your hunger, so don't go downing lard and stuff lol. Good luck
I would increase your protein/fat intake a bit. Dunno if you will "have to", but I'd also look at dropping the carbs into the sub 100g range. As to the P90X thing....probably about the worse program to start along with a shift to teaching your body to burn fat for fuel. It will take several weeks to adapt, but a good amount of walking would be fine. May consider something more in like of 1-2 intense resistance training days a week.....body by science is a good program. You will need to incorporated resistance training to make your body retain lean mass as you drop fat, but more is not necessarily better.
