I'm recently new to Paleo and I have a Derby game this weekend. This will be my first game since going Paleo so I was trying to get some good ideas for pre game meal. Before hand it was the usual whole grain carb load crap but now I'm not sure what foods would work well. Any help would be great!

While the game may last 2 hours, there's only 60min of play. And unless you're at the top of your roster (or incredibly short staffed), you're only going to be actively skating for a small portion of that. Chances are good that you exert more energy over the course of a practice than a bout!

Coconut water is good, banana is good, and I keep a small jar of coconut oil (with a few squares of dark chocolate melted in!) just in case. For tournaments, I pack avocados and hard-boiled eggs to eat after to avoid getting that OMGFOODNOW!!! feeling in a place where I have less control over my food options.

Derby is a horse race?

On race days I will consume a banana and a cup of coconut water before I race. Good mixture of sugars and potassium.

Or are you looking for tailgating food?

Or roller derby? LOL – Varelse Sep 12 at 19:08
:D lol I apologize, yes i mean roller derby..The games last around 2 hours with a 30 minute half time...You know tailgating food wouldn't be a bad suggestion either. It is football season... ;) – krazkinkc Sep 12 at 19:43
I still go with Banana and Coconut water. but for 2:30 you will need something during the derby too. – CD Sep 12 at 20:32
