What else are you paranoid of ?
If your like me: sunscreen, cleaning chemicals, scented candles, perfume, fabric softener...
I avoid most grains because of the horrible heartburn I get. Am I afraid? No. If I consume it, I deal with the agony and move on.
I also choose not to slather my body with harmful chemicals. Paranoid? No. Just good common sense.
There's a difference between paranoia and prudence. I find it prudent to avoid gluten, otherwise I am fairly certain that I will suffer from an upset stomach and/or migraine.
I'm not afraid of wheat or gluten. I don't see the point in eating it. I'm not afraid of products, food or otherwise. I either like it or don't, or see it as beneficial or don't.
I'm afraid of eating it because whenever I do, I experience brain fog, anxiety, fatigue and joint pain.
This isn't a very productive question.
There's a difference between well-founded avoidance of wheat/gluten and blanket one-size-fits-all bans on wheat/gluten. I think most folks here avoid (or not avoid) gluten for the right reasons. I think the diet book crowd probably avoids it for the wrong reasons.
