Am I the only one who finds a diet free from all processed foods leads to a clear mind. It has been an almost awakening for me over the course of the last year. My entire view of government and media has changed to be specific. The more you study and learn the scarier reality becomes.

Maybe. but a lot of things have changed for me in that past year, not many attributable to diet.

Interestingly, old Taoist monks warned against eating grains.

They maintained that grains clouded the mind and shortened life (some Taoist practitioners were obsessed with immortality and practiced alchemy in the attempt to live forever).

Personally, my mind feels more open and ready, especially in the mornings.

My sensitivity to myself and my true needs has improved. The "Second Brain" in the stomach speaks more clearly now...

Yes. Maybe it's the combination of my martial arts philosophies and the real food. It just really seems like I can see things more easily and clear now. – Aaron Curl Nov 29 2010 at 3:28
Interesting, where did you see that? – Alex Nov 29 2010 at 16:50

sites.google.com/site/delawareteasociety/… From this website: "As the Dayou zhang (Verse of Great Existence) says: The five grains are chisels cutting life away, Making the five organs stink and shorten our spans. Once entered into our stomach, There's no more chance to live quite long. To strive for complete avoidance of all death Keep your intestines free of excrement!" – Goose Dec 1 2010 at 20:15

Yep, definitely. I think the blood sugar/insulin swings were probably part of it. PLus it makes sense that if the whole rest of the body functions better, so would all the cells that make up the brain.

This is my experience exactly. I had a very difficult time concentrating in particular before I gave up sugar. – Alex Nov 29 2010 at 16:50

I wouldn't say so much a clear mind, but definitely an attitude adjustment. I feel more positive and powerful and in control of my destiny!

I find that I am more anxious when I let my diet slip. I never realized I was anxious until it got better. It was about two weeks in to Paleo.

It isn't the having attacks sort of anxiety just being worried and less adaptable, more likely to find things difficult.

I don't really notice much of a change. Before Paleo, I felt my mind was as good as it ever was. Then I switched to low-carb and that clouded my mind for a month. I felt slightly more tired than usual and had some short-term memory issues. Now on paleo, I feel about where I used to be but maybe very slightly more likely to have a "tip of the tongue" moment, and more tired at night. So, I wouldn't say there's been an increase in clarity. The last thing I can say probably did that for me was going on fish oil when I'd been fishless for years.

Absolutely, giving up processed foods has made my mind much clearer. Also energy levels are higher and just all-around feeling better.
