Has your shower frequency decreased since going paleo?

Every workout day, or if I sweat a lot, or every other day if those two don't occur. – Wisper Sep 13 at 22:57

I usually go jump in the nearest river and clean my spear from the freshly killed buffalo that I ran down over the last 20 miles.

Everytime? Damn you are OCD about cleanliness... – CD Sep 13 at 19:19

Thank God these things graze close to water . . . – PhysiqueRescue Sep 13 at 19:46

Nope. I usually shower once a day, in the mornings before work. Sometimes, if I feel mucky, I'll take another one before bed or before going out. Sometimes, if I'm just laying around the house on a day off, I'll skip.

At least 1x a day, 2x in summer.. – Stressed Sep 23 at 20:26
...and here I thought you'd be a dirty girl. Ooops, did I say that outloud? – Satchmo Sep 23 at 20:29
Dirty girls who are -actually- dirty are just gross! You'd never see Tori Black going about unbathed, that's for sure. – Varelse Oct 5 at 15:56

You guys shower? Why wasn't I told that was on the paleo diet!

HA! Nice. I think it's questions like this (from the OP) that make people think we're wackos way more than what we do or do not eat. – Amy B. Sep 13 at 21:21
I shower twice a week whether I need it or not. – RaiseFitness Sep 24 at 1:56

Shower frequency hasn't changed, but I'm less inclined to use shampoo and deodorant.

If anything, I shower more now. I am getting way better workouts and sweat up a storm.

Only when the prison guards force me to.

Yum...prison stank. – MathGirl72 Sep 13 at 19:46

A male prison would be the only place I'd consider going soap-free. – Varelse Sep 13 at 21:08

I live on an island. I occasionally cleanse myself in the ocean, with lamb fat and lemon juice. Needless to say, I'm always pretty salty. A healthy amount of aloe plants makes your skin really comfortable.

Nope, but I skip soaping up my entire body some days to keep my skin from drying out (I just stick to the critical areas).

I shower just as much but wash and comb my hair less often.

Once a week whether I need it or not.

Once a day in the winter, twice when it is hot. I use 100% natural olive oil soap with no additives.

I must be weird. I shower once a week. I don't smell. I use a simple coconut oil/baking soda mix for deodorant. I doubt dousing my skin (i.e., organs) in fluoridated, chlorinated water is optimal for health, so I try to minimize it. Besides, it's good for the environment :)

Also, you gotta keep your pheromones around for attracting mates! – Dan Sep 23 at 23:43

You don't think you smell. Other folks beg to differ. – Matt Sep 24 at 1:43
Sure. I'd also like to add that my body odor has completely disappeared in the last week or so, so I don't even need the deodorant anymore. :) – the paleo elephant Oct 6 at 20:16
My family points out body odor among our ranks like it's their job. (I suppose in some ways, it is.) Since going no soap/shampoo, trading in the deodorant that used to ruin my shirts for coconut oil and baking soda, and minimizing showers, I haven't received a single complaint... – Nachi Oct 29 at 21:31

i don't associate showers with getting "clean" anymore. i only shower when i feel like having the sensation of fresh water flowing over my body. also, no soaps, shampoos, lotions, shaving creams, etc. no more razor burn, dry flaky skin, dandruff, excess oil. i "trust" my skin.

:O Maybe YOU trust your skin, but other people trust their noses. I hate to be all Sheldon here, but stank violates unspoken social contracts. – Varelse Sep 13 at 17:46
^Meh, a cultural abnormality IMO....even though I still follow it. – JayJay Sep 13 at 17:51

Nothing abnormal about it, Jay! That "head" smell makes me gag! – MathGirl72 Sep 13 at 19:44

No, that's smegma smell. "Head" smell is that unclean scalp smell. – MathGirl72 Sep 13 at 23:59

(But, Mathgirl, based on one of your other answers that I recall... how would you know smegma-smell? ;D ) – Varelse Sep 14 at 0:03

In the morning and after working out, morning shower probably isn't necessary most of the time, but it helps wake me up.

No soap, no shampoo, shower once a day or every two days on non-duty days. Cold water and no more than 10 minutes to keep all my skin issues under control. If the ketosis smell gets too strong I'll slather on some coconut or jojoba oil mixed with a few drops of tea tree oil, it gets rid of any wonky odors in place of soap.

I shower 1-2 times per day mostly to raise my body temp and absorb water. I shower enough that using soap is a bad idea.

The change of my hygiene habits wasn't really a result of going paleo, more like an overall transition to a different kind of lifestyle and attitude.

Shower usually daily to every other day as a result of a dirty job and exercise habits, but most showers are little more than a rinse. No soap, I use baking soda to wash. I wash my hair 1-2 times per week. No deodorant other than sometimes a homemade one from coconut oil. Moisturize mostly with oils. Carefully avoid dangerous additives in any commercial hygiene products I do use.

I don't let stink marinate and concentrate, but I embrace the fact that after an active day, yep, I have a smell. I don't think I have to run home in shame to wash it off, although a freshening is courteous when interacting with other people.

A clean diet definitely makes for a much more pleasant body odor. I like the natural smell of a good healthy body.

I shower every other day. If I go longer than that my hair gets really greasy and I start to smell. On shower days I slather myself in lotion. I use olive oil soap and all-natural lotion. On non-shower days, I don't wash my face unless I have worn make-up that day. I do anti-perspirant every day. My real higeine compulsion is flossing. I floss two or three times a day.
