I've tried coconut oil with out much luck any other suggestions? Soap dries my skin out severely and I have actually been soaop free long before I ever heard about it through paleo. Store bought "soap" is actually usually detergent and not true soap and cause me to breakout in hives. For this reason I have showered with only water since childhood. I currently use conditioner to shave, but it contains questionable ingredients so I am looking for better alternatives.

I've been shaving with only water in the shower for years now with no irritation. YMMV, but nice steamy shower, fog-free mirror, and a better shave than I ever got otherwise. |

You may have luck with a homemade soap. It contains Castille soap, which is made from olive oil and is very mild (I use it in toothpaste). http://wellnessmama.com/2628/homemade-shaving-soap-recipes/ If you have a Trader Joe's near you, they carry several different bars (my favorite is a mint Castille, I think with hemp) that are very mild. |

Forget Gillette if you want to get a good shave. Start off by getting yourself a double-edge safety razor and a real badger brush (just like your grandfather). Then, get yourself some quality shave soap or shave cream; make a rich, emollient lather, and have at it with a blade of your choice. The shave is baby-butt-smooth. I, personally, like to shave after a shower. During the shower, I let my brush and soap soak in water. Afterwards, I make my lather and proceed to do a three or four pass shave. Visit this YouTube channel to get started: youtube.com/mantic59 Mantic will teach you virtually everything you need to know. Then, go to this forum to continue your journey: badgerandblade.com The products I currently use:
The shave is to die for. Enjoy! |

If I need to shave, and I'm not in the shower, I use an electric. Otherwise, I shave, in the shower, with a razor (Gillette Sensor) and Nivea Cooling Shave Gel. |

The Trader Joe's shaving cream is really nice and has no "bad" ingredients. My husband's has really sensitive skin and can not use an electric razor. He shaves right after he gets out of the shower and swears by the Trader Joe's Cream. |

An electric razor. Does it get as close as a blade and foam? No, but it's a lot easier on my skin. |

I'm really on this kick where I want to start shaving with a straight razor, and then progress to a machete. However, I don't know what the step is in the progression to "more paleo" between a machete and a rock. -Matt |

http://www.naturesorganicmarket.com/shave-cream-eo-products-organic-top-rate-soap-free-5-oz-p-731.html This is a soap free organic product, but has a lot of ingredients, some of which are less desirable. All the homemade shave creams I have seen have some kind of soap in them. Good luck! |
