I am probably in the minority here because most people seem to love Trop Trad, but here goes:
I do not like their coconut oil. They had a big sale on the gold label a while back (BOGO), and I'd heard so many raves about this brand, so I decided to take advantage. It was gross. Honestly, it smelled and tasted "off". Almost rancid, but more than anything, it tasted like soap. (and I know it is darn near impossible for coconut oil to become rancid, so I didn't think it was that.) I called the company to ask, because I had such high expectations and was supremely disappointed. They said something about it being fermented...I dunno. I didn't like it. BUT - I've used their coconut flour and their coconut cream concentrate, and they're both great. Maybe the oil was just an "off batch" or something. I've been scared to try again.
I have never had a problem with any other brand. They usually taste and smell strongly of coconut and are delicious
I think my favorite brand is Barlean's, but I've tried a ton of others and they've all been wonderful: Nutiva, Spectrum, Jarrow, Whole Foods store brand (365), Dr. Bronner's (with the white label...the brown label is slightly different and I much prefer the white). I've been able to find all of these brands at Whole Foods and also a regional chain of health food stores (Mom's Organic Market for anyone in DC/MD/VA). You could probably find them at a well-stocked regular supermarket like Wegmans.
