I had 2 protein shakes the last 2 nights which I put chia and flax seeds in. All day today I feel very bloated. Don't know if it is from this. I cut out fruit today except 1/2 an avocado in the a.m. Skipped breakfast for 2 days. The first took a l lb. off. The second brought 1/2 lb back. I have eaten onions, tomatoes, -- not sure if this does it.

Any suggestions? I feel pregnant!

Protein shakes aren't necessarily Paleo - what kind of protein powder are you using? – Renee Sep 25 at 11:46

Protein shakes are not paleo at all. And chia/flax are just gross (and not paleo). Do the shakes if you must, but please skip the seeds. – Dave S. Sep 25 at 12:08

Have you tried eating real food until you are full enough that you don't feel like you need the shakes or seeds.

Stick to meat and well cooked vegetables for a few days, and see if the bloating goes down.

Chia seeds. They swell up to enourmous volumes, sucking all the moisture out of your body.

Anytime I see a question that contains chia, flax or hemp, I immediately think "What the hell kind of paleo is that?" – Dave S. Sep 25 at 12:09

I've said this elsewhere but shakes become shakes by blending air into the liquid in order to whip it up. And then you swallow this air when you drink it. So it may be that shakes themselves are just too bloat-inducing for you, regardless of their contents.

And onions are a killer for me.

It's the onions(most probably)

Try ground chia it seems not to be as irritating to the gut. Onions should be avoided also.

And look for fillers in your protein shake like gums, etc and artificial sweeteners as they will also cause gut problems.

But why would you eat chia seeds in the first place? – Jamie Sep 25 at 12:46
They are a seriously weird "food", swelling to enormous volumes, and leeching moisture out of the body. Cant be good for you! – Jamie Sep 25 at 12:47

supplement magnesium oxide. I take this for anxiety and better sleeping..turns out it pulls water from the body and removes through bowel movements. more poop...less bloat. lol
