I love banana and know it is a good choice of nutrients, including potassium. In one book the author spoke of pureeing banana and freezing it. I know how high the carb content is in a banana. Anyone have any thoughts on how to incoorate it on paleo?

If you're wondering about when to eat it or how to eat it without gaining weight / how to optimize the carbs and sugar in bananas, I would treat it like a dessert and eat it like any other food that has a lot of glucose and fructose - after a hard workout.

That being said, I love pan frying my bananas in butter and sprinkled with cinnamon, cocoa powder and coconut flakes for an occasional treat!

I've never cooked a banana other than in baking... +1 for inspiration. – raney Sep 26 at 4:17
Thanks. I was talking about carbs and weight loss. If I am not working out that hard, would you avoid it? And what do you suggest for potassium with cramping? – Monkeyjebo Sep 26 at 5:02
Depends on how your body reacts to it. Some people are more sensitive to fat gain on fruits than others. For me, it's all about balancing the calories and sugar and workouts. If I don't work out hard enough and eat more calories, I will get that bloated feeling. If you really want a banana after a so-so workout, I don't think it would hinder your weight loss, as long as you don't overdo it on banana consumption. Try it out for a week and see how you feel. If you think you're gaining weight, stop or up the intensity of your workouts. – CC Sep 26 at 6:29
Pan-frying the banana slices in butter caramelizes them and really intensifies the flavor ... I've also pan-fried it in coconut oil and it's amazing! And if you're asking for other sources of potassium besides bananas ... algaecal.com/potassium-foods-list.html – CC Sep 26 at 6:33
I've also heard that bananas can also cause inflammation. – Veriria Sep 27 at 3:21

You beat me to it. I was going to say, "Peel it, and put it in your mouth." – Happy Now Sep 26 at 4:00

The way I incorporate bananas into my diet is to eat them after a workout. I usually slice one up and add some yoghurt and cinnamon. Sometimes I make chocolate sauce with cocoa powder and coconut oil (and if I want to get fancy; vanilla extract, stevia, and chili powder) and dip slices of banana in it. Also good with almond butter. And coconut butter.

Before a workout is also a popular option. – Dave S. Sep 26 at 13:11

My family's favorite way is to make banana smoothies with coconut milk and ice. Blend it all together. The kids love it too.

Peel. Slice. Smear with almond butter or coconut butter. Devour.

Switch to plantains, slice and pan fry in coconut oil.

Do plantains have less sugar? – Monkeyjebo Sep 28 at 9:14
More starch, less sugar (for green plantains). So not low-carb, but a nice change of pace from root veggies. – Christine M. Oct 3 at 15:38

Fry the bananas in ghee/butter.
Melt some 85% lindt dark chocolate.

I also eat them post workout and I mash them with almond butter and a little honey.

I like to mash them up and mix them with an egg and fry with some coconut oil. Top with honey or just eat them.

do you form the mash mix into patties or something? – Ruth Sep 26 at 19:52
