Okay so I've bought in and decided to give this a try to see how it might help. I am active but fat and as I enjoy lifting weights and know that many athletes eat Paleo I though why not. My question is will it severly impair me to eat a serving of fruit a day? Or should I try to stick to the veggies/lean meats/good fats?
So far I am feeling better. Insomnia gone, not hungry all the time and I really don't care what the scale says but I do know that I need to shed weight in order to be as active as I would like.
How about an N=1? Try eliminating fruit for a reasonable period of time (2 weeks?) and see what happens when you add it back in. Then you'll know.
The kind of fruit you're eating may make a difference, too. Small amounts of low glycemic fruits like berries and melon may not have much impact, but high glycemic fruits like bananas may derail any weight loss. You can experiment with that too, perhaps adding one type of fruit in at a time.
There's no magic to the first 30 days unless you're trying to get into ketosis, in which case high glycemic fruit will derail you at any point when you add it in.
I started from scratch. I'm only 21 y/o and a normal weight (low side of normal- wasting from celiac's my whole life - till last year!)
I'm looking to add muscle myself. If I eat more than 1/2 cup of fruit, it will trigger my sugar addiction. I can handle it now, but I couldn't when I started. If I were you, I would stick with the no-fruit thing for at least 30 days.
Personally, I had to go through a phase of eating very little if any fruit. I think there is a benefit to starting lower carb, and then working your way back up as you heal. I can now handle it just fine, and even eat fruit by itself and be satiated for hours, but a year ago that was not the deal at all.
Thanks everyone especially LikesLarinMayo congrats on your loss I have lost about the same but still need 50 more to go to be comfortably happy.
I haven't gone out shopping yet so I will not get fruits and try for at least a couple weeks without them once I finish the two small melons I have at home. I don't really have a sweet tooth I have a carb tooth so it's the bread and pasta that are the big issue but totally doable. That said sometimes my body just really wants fruit I don't know why but I will go through a kick and it would be nice to indulge. That said I am fine with limiting myself for awhile if that's the way to get the best results.
