Hello all. I want to thank you in advance for reading this. I have been paleo(ish) for a little while. Still wanting to take the final jump into full paleo, but I do have Crohns and sometimes the meat/veg does not sound appleaing. So rice is my back up :( ANYWAYS...I wanted to know how this diet has changed your lipid panel? Ive seen many posts on TC, but im most concerned with Trigs. They are very high in my case, about 250. Im 5'6" and 140lb female. MY belief is the high carb diet they recommend for us Crohnies (rice, white bread, pasta etc) So low fiber, low fat, you get the idea :) Drs have considered placing me on a statin, which I refused. Keep in mind that I went thru a terrible trama 2 years ago, major surgery, lots of antibiotics, pain meds and anesthesia on multiple occasions. Im sure my liver isnt too happy with me. I would like to know if any of you, or some of you, have had a positive change with trigs? Sorry if this is redundant, as I didn't know who to ask :( Thanks again!
My triglycerides went down about 60 points - they're at 44 now. Been fairly strict paleo for 10 months and have reaped other major benefit from it (no more chronic pain - joint pain is simply gone, haven't had a headache in 9 months, lost 20 lbs., energy through the roof, no longer shaky an hour after eating, etc.). My doctor can't believe my blood work can be so perfect by eating 50-60% saturated fat as the mainstay of my diet. Don't care if she doesn't believe me, I'm living proof. Keep at it - limit your rice or eat a ton of saturated fat with it in the form of coconut oil, ghee, lard and it's okay. Sweet potatoes are best for me - rice raises my blood sugar levels far too high.
Mine are now Quad-glycerides because my fat is so high!!

I don't have numbers but mine went down. So did my wife's. My mom's were cut in half.
I'm not a doctor, don't play one on TV, though there was a time when I was 12...but that doesn't matter.
The point is the minimal buy in, I'd say, is totally gluten-free. I'd also limit fruit till your trigs are better. I'm not convinced you need to limit starch but I'd favour tubers over rice.
I'm not familiar with Crohns to a high degree but from what little I recall a higher fat diet isn't a deal breaker.
Match a Paleo diet to your current carb-load...slowly add fats and decrease carbs and see how you do.
26 the last time it was tested. A year before (I had only been full-time Paleo for about 2 months), they were at 54.
I think the removal of grains and sugar can do wonders. The addition of quality fats can do wonders. Combine the two, give it time and the magic happens.
I have not been tested but typically triglycerides come down very quickly for almost everybody on this diet. Usually blood pressure comes down quickly as well. The other cholesterol numbers are highly variable, but low triglycerides is almost universal.
Thank you all!! You guys all gave excellent advice. Fish is just fine for Crohns. I'm not a huge fan of it, I prefer shellfish. I'm extremely D deficient, and I'm taking 5,000iu D3 daily. I'll try to limit rice. I have no problem with gluten free, as gluten tears me a new one. Seeing your positive response with trigs has made me feel more at ease. Fruit is limited as it is, surprisingly my tummy loves veggies, not fruits. I'm assuming its the sugar. I do use it to cook with though. Thanks you all again! And some of you say tubers over rice. May I have more details on this? Is it because of the lack of nutrition in rice? Sorry for sounding ignorant.
