I hate to say this but my allergies (pollen, dust, molds) are so much worse this fall after being paleo for almost 6 months. I am totally non-dairy but probably eat more fruit than I should. I am on zyrtec and benedryl. Hate taking 2 antihistamines but otherwise I can't function at all. I am sleeping really badly and drowsy during the day. My allergies generally last till Dec. then I am good till starting up again in late August. I had hoped that Paleo would help but alas I feel worse then ever! I wonder if probiotics might be of help. Anyone have any experience with allergies worsening with Paleo and then getting better?

If you live in the eastern US, it's not you, it's the ragweed. According to accuweather this year is especially terrible for fall ragweed allergies. I know it's hitting me way harder this year than usual, too.

I'm not one for bandaid solutions, but in this case, I think your best bet is to talk to your doctor about allergy medication options.

I want to give you two references. Both are about gluten intolerance, but they are related because they explain how your immune system attacks itself (thus leading to all kinds of allergic reactions) and how to heal it.

If you follow an anti-inflammatory diet and lower your carbs (and possibly eliminate fruits and sweet potatoes for now), keep eating bone broth, organ meats, green leafy vegetables, fermented foods and probiotics, your immune system should recover. But don't go very low carb, it might trigger thyroid problems.

My gosh these are interesting articles! I suspected that more probiotics might help. Unfortunate that I can no longer eat yogurt because of casein intolerance but will definitely be adding fermented foods to my diet. – Suzanne Sep 30 at 15:20

Allergies got worse when you stopped eating dairy, why not reintroduce it and see if they get better?

Cannot eat dairy because of casine. – Suzanne Sep 30 at 15:10
now that I think of it, last year I was eating yogurt and allergies were manageable. hmmm... Will try getting more probiotics into my diet to see if that helps. Thanks :) – Suzanne Oct 3 at 2:47

Certain fruits can increase seasonal allergies. If the food is cooked it is much less likely to cause allergies. If you know whether you are allergic to ragweed, grass, or whatever outdoor allergy you may have Google cross reactions and you will find certain foods to avoid that may help your situation.
