Ok, so I'm fifteen, and I started eating paleo back in June after I lost 15 pounds over 6 months from being low-carb high fat. Fathead anyone? Then I came across the paleo diet, and over the summer I lost another 7-ish pounds, but I've gained some since school started. Went from 127 to 134. I'm 5'7. Since school started I usually eat a couple eggs for breakfast, fried in coconut oil, and maybe a pickle or some ham. Some days I make a pancake with coconut four and coconut milk. Some days I make a smoothie with coconut milk, frozen spinach, and frozen fruit. Delicous btw! For lunch I make salmon salad with canned salmon, chopped pickles and celery, and onions, along with some coconut butter bark (frozen coconut butter+ either peppermint or vanilla extract) For dinner I cook a couple chicken thighs and a vegetable. Got these kelp noodles on amazon and they absorb flavors in soup really well. I'm not particularly active, a few pushups here and there, and yet despite eating totally paleo I've gained. Maybe I've been eating too much coconut butter/milk? I didn't eat it that much during the summer, besides the oil for cooking. These days I find myself eating a lot of it, coconut butter is delicious! I'm thinking about cutting out coconut besides oil for awhile to see if it changes anything. Oh, and my waist measurement is like 30 inches (if I suck in my gut :P) I've also been getting around 8 hours of sleep every night, more or less. Maybe I just need to exercise, if so what should I do? Oh, and I get a 14 hour fast every night. Advice people?

Oh, I forgot to mention, last time I checked my weight was 12 days ago, and I've gained four pounds since then, but the last time I checked it before breakfast, and this time I checked it after dinner. So I've gained more like 6 pounds or so total. – Melmac Oct 4 at 22:51

Stop obsessing over the number on the scale. Your weight is the least important indicator of health once you get into a normal height-weight ratio.

How do you feel? Are you constantly hungry? Happy? Sleeping well? Lifting well? What are your measurements like? All of these questions are much more important than "How much weight did you lose?"

Case in point... I've gained 4 lbs in the last month. I've also lost 2 inches around my waist and 1.5 around my midsection.

Ditch the scale, it's only distracting you.

I only check my weight once a week or once every other week these days, not as much as I did during the summer. But that's some good advice, you're right about the other things being more important. I'll probably still stop eating coconut stuffs for awhile though, see if that helps. – Melmac Oct 4 at 23:09

Just remember that at your age, your body is undergoing significant changes and it will take some time for it to find it's natural state as your mature. The important thing, is that you are nourishing your body so that it can develop naturally and healthily. For a fifteen year old, it sounds like you are doing a great job of this!! You are onto a good thing here with eating Paleo as it's a lifestyle based on these principles. So good on you! Maybe look at ways you can incorporate more movement as part of your daily routine. Just getting out and about a bit more. It doesn't need to be 'organised exercise'. Go run with the dog (if you have one - if not, a frisbee in the park with a friend works just as well!) Walk to the shops or to your friend's house. Ride a bike to school. Opportunities are endless to increase movement on a day to day basis.

All the best :-)
