Hey guys,
I currently use a crock pot to cook most of my larger pieces of meat. I've heard a lot of good things about thermal cookers. Does anyone have any experience with these? What are the advantages of each?

The obvious advantage of a thermal cooker is the energy savings. It's a vacuum insulated container that keeps hot food hot for a long time, so the food only has to be taken up to cooking temperature, at which point, the food is sealed in the insulated cooker, where it cooks in its own heat, with no additional heating required. My personal experience is limited to crock pots, and my complaint about them is that they're too hot and end up boiling food for hours, even on low. With a thermal cooker, the food never gets any higher than the temperature it was when the cooker was closed, so that solves the endless boiling problem. |

You own the slow cooker which covers all the basics. Low heat, low supervision, ease of use, it it's not broke why fix it? Matt |

do i ever live a sheltered life! i had no idea these things existed. the potential i see in the insulated cooker is portability. i work 12 hour shifts, so i could take a hot meal to work. and camping/festivals; 30 minutes on the camp stove in the morning for a hot meal that night. |

i bought one last year and love it! as sage said, i also worried about leaving the house with something cooking. everything i have cooked following the simple instructions cooked to perfection (nvever burnt or undercooked).... seasoning errors... well, that's another story :) i don't use the sun to heat my cooker, i use the stove, as most people do. they seem to be quite popular in Asia, UK, and Australia. if anyone finds good recipes (usually modified crockpot recipes), please pass them along.
