Does anyone have a specific probiotic they can recommend? I don't really have a budget limit as long as it is a good product. I was at whole foods and picked up one called PB8 for fairly cheap since I wasn't about which of the more expensive ones to buy. The ones I remember being dairy free were Garden of Life Primal Defense and Natren Trinity.
Are Garden of Life Primal Defense or the Natren Trinity good quality? I am trying to repopulate my gut flora using GAPS so I'm also doing bone broths and betaine HCL, if that is at all a factor.
I bought PB8 since it was dairy and soy free which are important to me since I can't tolerate either. I would prefer a brand that I can find in Whole Foods since they are in a refrigerated section, but if ordering online is my only option for something really good, then let me know.
I following a similar protocol as GAPS for overcoming my constipation. From what I've read over at http://realconstipationremedies.com I've come to the conclusion that I should not be relying on just capsule type supplements to supply probiotics but to also find them in natural foods are well. Home made sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, home-made yoghurt, etc are even better sources for probiotics because you are guaranteed they are alive and living when you digest them.
But capsule wise... I have found PD Ultra to be really good, Bio Kult and Healthy Origins have also been quite good too!
Well i always go with DDS Probiotics, they do have a smaller potency than a lot of the larger brands although they have 40 years of research behind thier formulations. THey are also Non-Dairy, wheat Free, Soy Free, Corn Free, preservative Free and Non-GMO.
They are sold at whole foods in the refrigerator section although they are room temperature stable too. The probioplus or DDS plus is most likely your best bet.
Look for Bio-K+ at Whole Foods or other good natural food retailers. It seems to be one of the only products with clinical studies. My Naturopath tells me a lot of hospitals use it because they can only recomend what has research behind it.
In the interest of full disclosure, I should say I have done some contract work for Natren. They are definitely experts 110% dedicated to the science of probiotics, and to providing their customers with the best probiotic possible. As someone who knows a little bit about the company and their products, I would whole-heartedly recommend them to anyone.
