I'm starting a vert strict dietary regime to clear acne, and optimize health. I'm doing a lot of fasting, and when i eat, I'll be doing intermittent fasting with all food eaten on eating days done in a 5 hour window. i tinkered with this before, but never had the discipline to do it right so never stayed on this regime long term.
The ONLY foods I will eat are: -raw organic grass fed 75% lean ground beef -organic grass fed beef tallow -organic green leaf lettuce -organic romaine lettuce -organic garlic
The question regards the raw beef- do you think going raw is actually worth it? Instinct tells me cooking beef is more likely less healthy than eating it raw, and that cooking might release carcinogens and induce a pro0inflammatory response, thus causing more acne.
Am I right in thinking raw beef is superior than cooked beef when optimizing health and anti-acne?
Yes you're right, it is superior, but raw beef is not for the weak and those with impaired immune system. Cooking to about 60-70C internal/external temperature will help you avoid the potential risks associated with raw meat, while largely avoiding its quality degradation (regarding health) when cooking at higher temperatures.
Please don't restrict yourself so much. I have got my acne under control being strict but less strict than you. You need to fix your gut and making yourself miserable is not going to help with the long process; it will take a while.
There is no need to eat raw beef, I would personally just do a Betaine HCL protocol as outlined by the SCD website or Chris Kresser to make sure you are digesting protein well.
From my experience with cystic acne, it has been caused my gut problems. To fix these, I went on a GAPS/SCD Paleoish diet. No nuts, seeds, fruit, dairy, grains, and soy.
I am avoiding fruit because I simply can't handle it even with a small amount of berries before I have inflammation and acne, maybe I have fructose malabsorption but I am avoiding fruit for now. The only vegetables I avoid are very starchy ones like potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, and rice. Squash is perfectly fine for me.
For vegetables, my favorites are carrots, butternut squash, turnips, kale, and cucumbers. I cook all of these except for the cucumbers which I put a little bit of olive oil and apple cider vinegar on. I eat fermented ginger carrots and sauerkraut from www.realpickles.com since they ship to NY for me and they are raw; expensive, yes, but for now I can't make my own fermented foods.
As for meat, all I eat is grass fed 75% lean ground beef and a little bit of liver each week. Since I don't eat fish I supplement with Green Pastures Cod Liver Oil. At the moment, I do not use the butter oil blend but I will try it once my gut heals up a little more so I can test my tolerance for butter. If the CLO + Butter blend is fine I will then try pastured butter, but for now I avoid dairy.
I also make bone broths(they have helped so much) using beef bones and beef oxtail and cook in a slow cooker for 48 hours with 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar per 2 cups of water. I brown the bones a little bit before cooking. Doing this yields a nice gelatiny broth when put in the fridge.
Every night I mix a little bit of water with apple cider vinegar and just wipe down my face gently with it every night.
My supplements: Vitamin D3 5k iu per day 1 capsule of Green Pastures CLO per day 2g Vitamin C (sodium ascorbate) per day 400mg magnesium before bed Renew Life 50billion probiotic Inner-Eco coconut water kefir; 1 shot glass per day. Sea Salt with my food(this has improved my thirst and energy, don't avoid it!; use spices in your food, they will likely help and improve flavor)
I have been slowly improving. My gut problems and digestion have been improving(although I do have some days where I get gas and bloating, which I like to believe is die-off but I am not sure). My tongue has gotten pinker and my yeast infection is going away. My face isn't as oily anymore and get very little inflamed acne anymore.
I understand acne is a frustrating issue, but don't stress your self out emotionally about it. Restricting yourself to such a diet would likely make it worse.
If I were you I would do a lowish carb GAPS/SCD Paleo diet like me for around 1 month(around 50g). I like to avoid ketosis because according to Paul Jaminet(ketosis can feed the bad bacteria) and so far from my experience increasing carbs and adding probiotics has only helped. From there on evaluate your progress.
Sorry for the long-rant but I really don't recommend what you're planning to do. I was in the same boat as you restricting myself to foods. I tried raw vegan, some diet with only raw egg yolks some cooked fish and lettuce, all meat diet, Primal, VLC Paleo and the only thing that has helped is moderate carb GAPS/SCD Paleo with bone broths and fermented foods!
