I am beginning to read about this and feel it may have definite benefit. Activities include connecting a cable to my ground pole at home, through any outlet, and grasping it frequently, touching my grounded computer tower. Hard to go outside barefoot in the winter

I was looking into grounding mats, but they are a little expensive. What do folks who are into this do?

Good timing, I was just walking barefoot on some kind of stone/maybe concrete not sure for the first time in awhile yesterday and noticed how good it felt. I was wondering why or if it was all in my head. I guess maybe it was grounded? – Kyle Nov 5 at 12:13

You ground yourself every time you wash your hands with the faucet. I don't really see the point of getting special equipment... – Elunah Nov 5 at 14:01

I use an earthing sheet and mats and I love them! You feel a subtle chi hit right away ...a strong sense of well-being, and sleep has been much better since I have used the sheet. I know many will be skeptical, but even the quality of sleep difference alone makes it worth the price. Also, my cat and child, who know nothing about electromagnetic fields, want to be on the sheet or mat, wherever they are in the house.

Earthing Technologies has a kit for about $300 that includes a half-sheet, mat, book and various cords.

I highly recommend this stuff. Whatever the science behind it, I feel deeply relaxed after sleeping or napping on the sheet or mat. I awake fully rested and ready to go. Plus it just feels good in the same way that an acupuncture treatment leaves you feeling good. And it totally fits with Paleo!

Hope that helps.

I'm sure there are cheaper ways to get placebo benefit from such pseudo-crap. – Wisper Nov 5 at 15:10

And your dismissal is based on what? Even if you believe that the high density of cell towers and wireless connections and all the other sources of constant electromagnetic pollution have no effect on us whatsoever, you cannot deny the numerous reports of people feeling and sleeping better using this "crap". I think mainstream's view of EMFs and their effects to be in a similar place to how the theory of germs/bacteria/viruses was viewed originally. In both cases, you can't see "it" so it is easy to deny its effects. And yes, a cheaper way would be to walk around outside in bare feet. – tbunchylulu Nov 5 at 16:55

If nothing else, I offer my n=1 experience. It has helped my sleep for certain. Maybe we can sum it up this way: If you get something from acupuncture, Qi Gong, etc... try it. If you don't like or believe in energy based therapies, don't try it. – tbunchylulu Nov 5 at 16:58

I've got one, I sleep better for sure, and my cyclist husband swears his recovery time is way better using it. I went through a week of horrible sleep and I thought to check to see if it was plugged in - totally came unhooked. – areyousuchadreamer Nov 5 at 22:21

Does everything have to have proven scientific evidence backing it up in order for it to be true? Maybe it helps in a way that we don't yet understand, perhaps its mislabeled rather than placebo... – Kyle Nov 7 at 23:13

I had a rant on PH about this before, but I can't seem to find it. It's all nonsense promoted by people who don't actually understand how electricity and magnetism work.

Here's one of my rant I did find about people thinking turning the power off matters: http://paleohacks.com/questions/92922/has-anyone-experimented-with-turning-off-breakers-in-their-homes-at-night/93082#93082

Maybe I can search more and find the rant. It was pretty good if I remember.

I wrote up a long post on Grounding a while back. Check it out; I think it will have a lot of the information you are looking for:
