I have noticed whenever I drink kombucha, that I end up getting a bit of a headache afterwards. Any one know why this would be? I drink GT's Organic Raw so there is only 4 grams of sugar.
That's so strange! I usually feel the exact opposite after! I usually feel more restored physically and mentally, I only buy the one with 4 grams too! Do you eat fruit/sugars on a regular basis? If you don't, like when I hadn't had fruit in a while and had one, it was kind of a shock to my system for some reason even though it's only 4 grams. Or maybe it's just the kombucha detoxing your body?
I can't imagine it's because it's bad for you, Probiotics are great!
Like you, I love Kombucha, but I get a fierce headache every time I drink more than about 1/4 cup of it, and I have been trying to find out why. I strongly suspect these are "healing crisis" headaches, because I get the same result from other types of powerful probiotics, especially soil-based probiotics. I surmise that the kombucha is causing some kind of bug or yeast to "die off", and that my body simply cannot process the detritus out fast enough. Some info I have come across suggests that we can alleviate this discomfort by strengthening the liver. To that end, I plan to experiment to see if taking Milk Thistle and Tumeric makes a difference. I would welcome hearing from anyone else who is working their way through this problem, since I believe kombucha is very good for us. I am convinced that my inability to tolerate it tells me something about ME, not about the kombucha. best regards, julie in Virginia
Another possibility I came across, is that some people's bodies cannot mobilize toxins efficiently. Kombucha being an excellent detoxifier, if your body does not have the means to circulate and excrete excess toxins, they build up in your body and can cause headaches, moodswings, etc.
I get headaches too when I drink Kumbucha. This never used to be the case, but it is now. Alcohol does not give me headaches. Tea does not give me headaches. Probiotics do not give me headaches. In fact, I never get headaches. Only when I drink kumbucha. And they last all day. Sucks.
I am in the same boat. I started drinking home made Kombucha and shortly thereafter I would get a tense feeling at the stem of my skull, starting in my neck and going up over the top of my head. I thought it was a migraine so I went to doc and got migraine meds. Strange thing is, it's not consistent. I've drunk it before and been fine. Wondering if I'm not hydrated enough to flush out the toxins and the Kombucha is just chasing them around in my body. I'm going to up my Vit C and drink lots more water and see if that staves off the fierce pounding in my head.
