I often find that I get CRAZY HOT after a meal. Sometimes I get flushed and sweaty, but most often I just get really, really hot without any visible changes. I've mostly ignored these weird hot flashes, but today I had a really intense one and someone actually asked me if I was okay because I was so red. (This was after a lunch of a small portion of chicken breast, bacon, a bunch of roasted broccoli, and a cup of herbal tea.) I searched around on PH and elsewhere but, while I found mentions of this phenomenon, I didn't find any answers. I read theories about how meat releases the most heat compared to other foods, how over-training can lead to hot flashes (what? really?), and about "meat sweats," but it all seems like conjecture. Can anyone point me toward more information on what causes this and whether I should be concerned?
I got hot flashes for a few months at first. They'd happened in my face or my core or even sometimes just my feet! I'd get them after eating sweet potatoes or a zero-carb breakfast or totally randomly not even after any particular meal. I'd get them just walking down the street or in the middle of the night or just sitting in my office working. I finally figured that it must just be my body thanking me for providing nutrition to it for once. It's been a year now and I don't get them anymore.
I get that after hot tea and spiced foods and my nose is running.... it really is bother
sympathetic nervous system: ppl with erythomania [fear to flush] get sweaty, hot and red after eating after they had surgery for this condition.
I also get pseudo-hot flashes, in addition to a runny nose. This happens during/after dinner, which is usually about 6-8 oz. of grilled chicken/fish/turkey and lots of roasted/sauteed greens. The spiciness and/or actual temperature of the food doesn't matter; happens just about every night. Would also love to know what in the heck is going on here!
