Especially food wise (as it helped me) but other tips work too. I wash my body (and hair with organic shampoo) once a week but now, I want my body/hair washing to extend to once a month if possible because it's winter and I hate the cold wetness after coming out of the stall. Plus it sounds like a challenge. I don't exercise. I don't use any deodorant but I wash my feet and my john more than once a week. I am pretty sure I don't smell because people still come near me and when I asked a few close friends if I smell, they said no. I believe what has helped me most, along with the weston price diet, are vitamin supplements, a lot of raw fish, and brushing my scalp a lot. I am not sure if this qualifies as oil cleansing but I slather on shea butter on my skin a lot, and they all absorb so it's not like I brush it off or anything. I do dry brush, but very rarely.

I know that many of you don't even use soap, only shower once a month, or not at all. Paleo diet and the elimination of grains may get you through, but do you think there may be particular methods or foods that helped you even further?

"only shower once a month" !!! I hope this is rare. reminds self to bring a bottle of lavender oil to next paleo conference

More seriously, getting older seems to have helped with stink production, as has cutting carbs back. I typically shower every 2 to 3 days in winter, 1-2 in summer, sometimes take a bath just to relax or warm up in winter. Baking soda/coconut oil blend for scrubbing in the shower in winter, real soap on stinky bits in summer with natural sponge to scrub rest of skin. I usually don't use cleanser in the winter bath, but often add oil or such to the water to sooth dry skin. Baking soda/vinegar rinse for hair. Also a very strong tea/sage brew on hair to make it slightly less gray.

i wash my hair once a week with a sulfate/paraben free wash from the organic grocers and use a boar bristle brush to distribute the oils daily.

i oil cleanse my face with coconut oil and salt water from the pacific ocean out front.

my skin doesn't really need lotion, but when it does i use coconut oil... sometimes i even forget deodorant and its totally fine.

one thing i am not willing to compromise is showers. a modern convience that there is no substitution for after a long day at work or an intense workout at crossfit.

since showers are relaxing they must reduce my cortisol levels... which would make them semi-paleo right? :)

Combing helped my scalp stay oil free too. I would shower too, if it's summer. – Paleomofo Nov 22 at 18:37
not necessarily will showers reduce cortisol. If you implement some hot/cold showers then yes I would say they help regulate hormones. I always run cold water down my chest onto my testes at the end of my shower after I workout. Ive heard this prevents the drop in testosterone production following a rise in temperature in the testes. – paleo12 Feb 14 at 18:10

I shower about once a week. I think getting the toxins out of your diet helps tons (and lifestyle - ie. creams, lotions, potions and things like BPA). I have been working to get my D3 and Magnesium levels good, and I now barley need deo!! I just use it like once or twice a week (and all natural) - whereas I used to use it multiple times a day.

For bodywash I am just using some castlie soap on the pits and privates. I think just letting water rinse off the dirt is good enough. I don't have a normal moisturising routine.. I just use abit of coconut oil if my skin or lips feel dry.. other than that - nothing goes on my skin :)

I don't wash my hair with shampoo - you can read all about my experince if it interests you here: http://fondalashay.com/mintchilli/i-do-not-wash-my-hair-yes-you-read-that-right I have long dark hair, use a normal brush and a bristle brush on it.

I use vinegar and baking soda for my hair. I don't use soap in the shower, and right now, I feel rather silly for showering as much as I do. Since it is winter, my hair feels too clean, and I often skip the baking soda/vinegar. My skin also feels too clean/dry.

how do you guys keep your hair from getting greasy? i would love to cut down washing my hair to once a week because i read that it's so much healthier for your hair, but i have long oily type hair and it gets stringy and greasy in less then a day. do you guys use dry shampoos? dabs of baking soda? and is scalp brushing different then your standard brushing?

gelatin makes your hair very healthy and is said to prevent dryness in hair. not sure if this applies... – paleo12 Feb 14 at 18:12
Ive noticed an increase in chest hair since i started supplementing with some great lakes gelatin. lol – paleo12 Feb 14 at 18:12
Time. Both to get your scalp oil production adjusted to a baking soda vinegar regime, and if you are young, with time/age you usually don't produce as much skin/scalp oil. – Karen Feb 28 at 17:47
I switched to a non-detergent shampoo (basically, no ingredients with "sulfate" in the name), and within a couple of weeks my back-length hair became dramatically less greasy on its own. It went from getting greasy and clumpy if I didn't wash it at least every 3 days to staying soft and healthy-looking for at least a week. I'd recommend trying this before going to baking soda or no-shampoo. In particular I've read that baking soda can be harsh unless your hair is naturally very thick. – AxialGentleman Mar 14 at 19:57
