I just bought myself a Big Green Egg grill, because I've been very good and I deserve it, thank you. My first night with it I cooked up some ribeyes and a pork loin roast, and I'm already a total nut for this thing. Can't wait to roast some whole chickens and make pork barbecue this weekend.
Any other BGE geeks in paleo-land? The BGE forums are full of ideas for breads and pizzas and grilled fruits and other offensive notions - I'd love to get some paleocentric Egg recipes going. Or if you're fond of another grill, please also share.
Heck yes! Anything smoked (smoked chicken, pulled pork, pulled beef, brisket, pastrami), wings are great, bacon wrapped cheese stuffed peppers (ABTs), tandoori skewers... it's really endless. Anything you can cook on a stove, in an oven or on a regular grill. I use a wok on mine which is fantastic fun.
I highly recommend "Smoke & Spice" by Cheryl and Bill Jamison for low-and-slow recipes and ideas. The Naked Whiz website is full of great tips and recipe books (most meat recipes are really easily paleo adaptable).
The Egg is so versatile -- totally upgraded my cooking both in and out of the kitchen.
I do have to say: pizza on the egg is AMAZING with the proper crust recipe. Totally worth it on a rare occasion (will eventually try to figure out a decent gluten free crust ...)
Seek out an EggFest over the summer -- plenty going on around the country.
The best steak you'll ever have: Get the egg up to molton temp (or, maybe 500 is more reasonable and safe), follow Dr. Eade's DIY sous vide technique: http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/food-porn/diy-sous-vide/ then throw the steak directly on the coals for 30s a side. (I actually use a contraption that allows a small cast iron grid to sit 6 inches or so over the coals.)
A great BBQ site that I go to alot is: http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/index.php. There is alot of info there on how to cook just about any kind of meat. As far as paleo recipes go, just take out the sugar from the rubs and grill vegetables instead of the non-paleo sides that people normally cook. BBQ is really easy to make paleo, it's just cooking a hunk of meat, the only things to watch out for are the marinades/injections, and rubs. As long as there is no sugar or alot of salt you are good to go.
Edit: go to the sub-forum "Q-Talk," that is where the members post their cooks that they do. You can also search for past ones using the search bar at the bottom of the page.
Haven't got the Egg - but I HAVE got the Weber smokey mountain smoker and use it a lot. Fabulous smokey flavours and makes the "tougher" cuts delectably tender with that haunting, evocative smoke flavour - so Paleo!!!
The BGE is absolutely amazing and cook pretty much everything on it so YES I am a BGE GEEK.
I've made a ton of Paleo recipes on it such as my favorite chicken recipe: http://www.arizonacaveman.com/paleo-drunk-butt-chicken-big-green-egg. Also wild caught salmon is amazing on it. For New Year's Eve I am making a Pulled Pork with Paleo BBQ sauce.
