Semi curious about this carb back loading. Not really looking to get shredded or into power lifting, but i wonder if it can help with sustaining mountain biking intensity on longer rides. Any thoughts on how this may fit into the Primal lifestyle ?
Of course it can be. In fact, I've been doing it for a year (not on purpose) before I even heard about it. I work out (heavy metcon or heavy weightlifting) at 5:30 after work. Then I'm home by 7:00 and eat a big hunk of meat with potatoes or sweet potatoes.
So basically, I'm putting my workout late in the day and then refeeding lots of carbs PWO while my muscles are ready to absorb the nutrients. It seems to be working great.
My carbs are all "paleo carbs" unlike Keifer who just goes for whatever you can stuff down your pie hole. But in the end the chemistry is all the same.
The Paleo Diet for Athletes by Loren Cordain/Joe Friel is probably a better guideline if you are looking to adhere to ancestral/primal lifestyle. Carbs are basically timed around workouts to meet fueling requirements.
