I am losing about about 5-7 pounds a week, I am fat but I wouldn't say extremely obese. I eat when I am hungry and don't go hungry. I am fairly low carbs (don't count) but to be honest I eat a ton of vegetables and about 2-3 servings of fruits. A lot of meat, maybe not enough red meat which I will increase.Is 5-7 pounds a week too much to lose? The thig is I don't like force feeding myself so I don't want to do that.
Is this unhealthy??
If you feel healthy and otherwise good and logic tells you you're getting enough food, don't sweat it for awhile. From the description of how you eat, it would seem you're getting plenty - your body is just likely getting to whatever is natural for this style of eating, albeit getting there fast. ;-)
I'm also a powerlifter and at least for me, combining a dietary change with not lifting will make me lose weight light gangbusters. One thing you can do to at least keep muscle and slow down the weight loss would be to get back into lifting if you can.
Important- for how many weeks? Initial rapid weight loss is often "water weight". If you have a considerable amount of weight to lose, you can lose at a slightly higher rate than your average joe, who is recommended to go at about 1-2 lbs per week. That slow weight loss is to help maintain lean mass, which is easy to lose and hard to gain back. Loss of lean mass is also bad idea metabolically. So, if initially you lose weight quickly, say about 10 lbs, then it slows to 1-2 lbs per week, that would be considered a healthy way to lose weight.
I lost 20lbs in a month but that was on a PSMF. I suppose it is possible to do safely but I sort of doubt it is sustainable or ideal. Without knowing your starting weight and % BF it is hard to say. For instance, I can imagine if you had suppressed thyroid from grains, were binge eating sugar and grains and were retaining water and suddenly went low-carb Paleo you could drop vast amounts of water and weight. It would be a perfect-storm situation.
Make sure you are staying hydrated and make sure to keep your protein above 100gm a day minimum (more is better) to avoid lean muscle loss. Other than that...congrats.
Stick with it as long as you feel well, aren't constantly hungry or sleepy, aren't losing your hair, don't seem like you have the flu, etc. I don't think there's a discrete discontinuity where on one side you have "healthy" and the other "unhealthy" fat loss.
Another thing to consider is how much lean tissue you are losing. Keep protein intake high for a protein sparing effect (pretty easy on paleo). Lift heavy things early and often so long as you have the energy for it, and when you don't have the energy for it, eat more.
Would help if there was more info on you personally, like hight, weight, body fat%. I mean if you are 6'6" and 400 lbs then I think 6-7 pounds a week isn't that bad, but if you are 5'0" and 200 lbs it might be a lil different. If you aren't getting the calories you need for the day try bacon and sweet potato together. It's like a calorie/fat/carb bomb. I cut them up into half inch cubes, pan fry them for a few minutes then throw the bacon in and wait for the magic to happen. And if it's breaky time, I just add eggs at the end, lunch- put with a chicken/spinach slad, dinner- just as a side. Hope that helps, squashes are realy good to for carb/calorie adder too.
