Hi,

So I have been avoiding grains except for the occasional white rice which doesn't bother me. I know I feel worlds better being grain-free so am not looking back.

I recently discovered these little baninis that a local raw food restaurant makes. They are made with all organic ingredients, the main one being sprouted buckwheat. I also discovered a raw cereal that is made with sprouted buckwheat as well. I've been eating both of these things fairly regularly over the last few weeks and they don't cause any digestive distress.
I really like the sense of fullness I get when I eat it, and I also think there is a lot of fiber from it that I think I could use.

I'm inclined to just eat as I really feel good when I do- same thing with white rice and quinoa. They never make me feel bed, quite the opposite actually and I like the idea of having some variety other than simply meat, potatoes and veggies/berries....

Thoughts? Does anyone else eat it?

Thanks!

I think sprouted or fermented buckwheat is fine. I buy sprouted buckwheat cereal sometimes. I also make fermented buckwheat crepes and pancakes on occasion. I haven't exploded yet. – Shari Bambino Jan 18 at 0:52

I ate soaked buckwheat for a long time because it didn't have an affect on me. Then it started giving me stomach cramps (around the same time avocado and pineapple were giving me the same problems), so now it's on my "eat only rarely" list. I do eat a small handful of other gluten free grains though, on occasion. I do white rice and nixtamalized corn primarily, for variety, especially when eating out. Don't eat much grain at home on a day-to-day basis.

I do believe in doing what works for you. If you feel better including it than when you don't, there's no reason to let someone talk you out of it, especially for the sake of adhering to dietary dogma.

Hi Michelle, thanks for your answer. So far it doesn't bother me, and i just bought some noodles to try as well (though they are not sprouted) but after I'm done with those I've decided to give GAPS a try... in which case it's bye to buckwheat! Still, nice to know there it's an option to have every once in awhile. – kris Jan 8 at 20:59
