I know there is another question very similar to this, but the answers didn't seem to address my specific question.
I was wondering if anyone had a magnesium protocol for the clean out. My dr wants me to use the Miralax, and says knows nothing about the magnesium....which I find so hard to believe.....no choices.....
I also am pretty sure that the fat skimmed home made bone broth will be my couple days before nourishment. Other than tea and black coffee, any other Paleo suggestions?
Thanks, can wait for this fun filled excitement
They help with the cleanse and keep your body healthy. I drank kefir until the clear liquid day, then kraut juice, kombucha, water kefir. I drank Miralax with electrolyte water. Lots of Broth, too. No sugary juices.
It wasn't bad at all, nothing like I dreaded. And the clean bill of health ( my father died of colon cancer) was priceless.
i have had about 8 colonoscopies and i used magnesium citrate once. it didn't clean me out all the way. my best prep is doing 3 days of no eating beforehand and just drinking juices or broth. this has worked for me. i used to do the whole gallon jug prep of nulytely but it was just so gross.
There are a couple types of colonoscopy preps. One is the Co-Lyte or Miralax and the other that I know of is Visicol (you can google it). The important thing is to have a clean colon so I would discuss this with your physician. I didn't think the Co-Lyte was all that bad. It was hard to get it all down but you only need to drink until you are running clear.
As far as food selection goes, only clear liquids (anything that you can see through) and nothing red (which wouldn't be considered paleo anyway). So water, tea, apple juice, gelatin, broth, and the like. Perhaps not coffee but you can check with the gastroenterologist's office on that and other recommendations. Good luck and have fun!
Do you mean what sort of magnesiun to use, or how? Magnesium Oxide is the one you want, you'll find it at most health food stores as "Colon Cleanse" Brand. Use as per the details on the bottle. I'd say 2 days before a teaspoon 2-3 times a day.
My sister was told to use mg citrate 12 hrs beforehand, followed directions perfectly and it did NOT clean her out, for which she was reprimanded and basically given and paid for a nearly useless colonoscopy. Definitely start cleaning out 2-3 days beforehand.
Most colonoscopy preps use PEG combined with potassium and sodium salts. Any reason for wanting magnesium? Word of warning to be on a liquid diet the day before. I still had a few food bits lingering and got chewed out by the doctor.
If you are taken to task for not being "clean", then you have a good GI. Most GIs don't really care since they get paid for the procedure whether the patient is clean or not. Some will note in their report that "preparation was very poor and limited visiblity" but most won't even bother with that. Many senior citizens who undergo this procedure prepare very poorly and in about 1/3 to 1/4 of cases, the colonoscopy is pretty much useless because of the lack of visibility.
But you will think the coast is clear and everything is A OK. Unless told by the doctor who really knows about detecting colorectal cancer.
