I Just started Keto 3 days ago and the order two days I stayed under 20carbs but the third I decided I would just stay under 30..I have been drinking tons of water, but have headache and feel so so tired..does it ever stop or will I feel like this everyday? Also does these mean my body has began ketosis? Are there certain foods I can eat to make the headaches stop? And to get some more energy?
You are on day three. Sounds like you are experiencing "low-carb flu." It will pass, but if you are serious about entering into ketosis, you'll need to persevere and fight through it. What will "help" with the headaches is carbs.
Salt (preferably whole salts like Himalayan or Celtic Sea Salt) will help immensely. Going VLC causes rapid mineral wasting. Make sure you are getting 1-2 teaspoons per day until you feel better, and then you can lower it if you like. You can start right now, by putting a big pinch on your tongue and slowly drinking water. I found it was easiest to make sure I was getting enough by drinking a cup of broth first thing in the morning with 1/2 to 1 tsp. of salt in it.
Vegetable juice can also help get you some fast liquid and bio-available minerals too.
You need to spend more time to get into ketosis. For me it took at least two weeks and it didn't feel very good during those. I also had to supplement with sodium, potassium and magnesium. The most important thing to keep in mind is of you're actually eating enough fat while keeping proteins low enough. I've realised that its very easy not to eat enough fat. As Volek and Phinney says "when in doubt, eat more fat". Especially coconut and MCT oil will help you produce ketones but any fat substituted for carbs and proteins will be good.
The bottom line: adaption takes time, don't expect it to happen fully before you have tried it for at least two weeks (possibly more)
Hope that helps!
