I have a 60 minute lunch break.
Let's assume 30 minutes of actual eating time.
Should I:
A) Walk 30 minutes, then eat?
B) Eat, then walk 30 minutes?
C) Walk 15 minutes, Eat, then walk another 15 minutes?
All comments welcome,
Thanks,
Mike

Just walk....doesn't matter when. I walk before I eat usually, but to put things in context I don't walk for the metabolic effect alone. I walk for neurobiomechanical feedback and improved brain function in general. So just do it! Before....after....hell, during. No big difference IMO. |

I personally enjoy walking after I eat, as to help with digestion. Like if you have a job where you sit most of the time, it might be good to speed up digestion right before you sit again. |

Intuitively, most will likely suggest activity before food reward. However, for walking - frankly, I like to get a good walk in after I eat. It rounds out the entire experience of eating a substantial amount of food. |

I guess it depends on what you want to achieve. To reduce blood sugar level you should walk after the meal. But if the effect is really significant on your insulin level is probably up for discussion. Personally I like to a 5min walk and then stand at my desk after lunch at work. At home I usually have something that keeps me active anyway. |

Walking after you eat is more taxing on the body as it is doing two tasks: exercising and digesting, leading to decreased quality of both. Unless you're so hungry that you don't have enough energy, your endurance will be higher when you train before eating. Additionally, you will burn more calories of the food you eat after walking as your metabolism is boosted. So that's good if you're trying to lose weight. |

Neither. You should walk DURING lunch. |

I think what you think works best. Mentally I like to walk (or my workout warmup on the elliptical (hey! bad knees from Football)) before my first meal because I follow an IF protocol. This helps burn the last bit of fat I have mobilized from the 16-18 hour mark. Then training. Then after dinner I usually take my pooch for 20-30 minute walk. I also walk for 20-30 minutes with my dog in the morning. I imagine burning fat on the before lunch walk and the after dinner walk I imagine that I am burning off any carbs I consumed from the veggies or fruit or what-have-you. |

Do whatever encourages you to walk more. Walking for food probably makes the most sense, as it will sharpen your appetite. But I don't like walking early in the AM without a little bit of food in my stomach. Fasting overnight gives me an appetite that I need to deal with before activity. |

My GI would tell me to walk after I eat. I suspect it's a combination of keeping an upright posture and movement stimulating digestion. |

I think you should do 6 weeks of each, and then report back with your findings! It sounds like it doesn't make a difference, it's probably personal preference. |

D) sprint twice at 30 seconds, eat 30, walk remainder. Out of the ones you provided I'd pick c then a then b in that order. |

I love the idea of a paseo after a meal so you don't feel sluggish and weighed down. In the summer in our town, many people can be found out walking and socializing after their dinners. That said, if I were power walking, I would want to eat after since I can't stand doing real exercise on a full stomach. |
