I have been doing paleo for quite some time and noticed when i go VLC i can cut weight rather easily via diet in correlation with working out. With that being said i have read many times that you NEED carbs to put on muscle. So in short summer is coming and I need to know how many carbs i need to for muscle growth coupled with the massive amounts of protein i ingest on paleo? And prefferably whomever responds I am asking for grams per day and when (before or after morning workout)?

You are cutting weight quickly because of weight lost in conjunction with lower to depleted levels of liver glycogen (which is bound up with water - hence where "water weight" term comes from). If you drop into this VLC zone on occasion, you are likely to notice a quick drop at first every time. The problem with low liver glycogen is that when your body (under the influence of exercise and exertion) needs more glycogen it's going to get it from your muscles (the second largest store of glycogen in the body). So, this less of "eating carbs important for muscles growth" and more of a "eating carbs important for non-loss of muscle mass". If you want to "slim down" you don't need to worry about this as much as if you want to "gain strength" or "build lean mass." tl;dr There is no magic number - keep that glycogen tanked up or you will lose muscle mass. |

You don't necessarily need carbs, they are not essential to ingest. Some people say you can gain muscle on vlc or a ketogenic diet.
