Hi everyone. I was hoping you could help me on this issue I have been noticing. I've been eating paleo for about 5 months. It seems that minor scratches take quite a bit longer to heal compared to when I used to eat SAD. Maybe I need more Vitamin E or K?
I would recommend that you have your nutritional status tested. Spectracell laboratories can measure 30+ micronutrient deficiencies including B-vitamins, C, D, A, E, K, calcium, magnesium, zinc, etc. Many insurance plans can cover the cost. It is well worth doing to help you adjust your diet and or supplementation. If you are exercising heavily, you should be aware that your antioxidant status will tend to be lower. This can increase the body's need for zinc, copper, selenium, and other antioxidant nutrients. Many of them also play a role in collagen formation, clotting, and healing in general.

I have the opposite observation. I had a basal cell cancer removed from my neck. Dermatology Doc on one week followup said he had never seen anyone heal as fast as I did on this surgery. I feel the 75% fat. 20% protein, 5% carbs, no wheat, no corn, no sugar and supplementing with 5000IU Vit D3 has really strengthened my immune system. Haven't been sick since I started this lifestyle.

What does your version of the diet look like? Is your thyroid doing fine?
As pointed on the perfect health diet ( http://perfecthealthdiet.com ), a lot of people who go very low carb for a long period of time could run low on vitamin C.
Vitamin C deficiency is certainly implicated with slow wound healing.
Other than vitamin C, iodine can also be low on a paleo diet when not taken care of.
Anyways, I don't think you would need more vit. E or K as these are some of the most abundant on a paleo diet.

Every time I get a little cut or a burn it not only takes a long time to heal, it leaves a flat pigmentation mark that last for years. This has neither improved nor gotten worse with my dietary changes, though I never ate that badly in the first place (never typical SAD nor super-low fat). I've been searching for a way to improve this healing.
There seems to be a lot of mention of zinc as something that aids healing, but I can't say that supplementing with zinc has made any difference that I can see. Maybe it will help someone else though.
Do you happen to supplement with fish oil? Getting lots of omega 3 can slow down wound healing.
