Can you recommend any healthy Paleo make-up remover? I want something that is not solid at room temperature (not coconut oil or my favorite shea butter). Right now I am using almond oil, but it is not cold pressed so... not sure how healthy it is.
Olive oil? The smell is too strong. Any very Paleo suggestions?
Guys are welcome to make suggestions too - maybe used to remove some makeup after Halloween or a birthday party or something.
I use the Oil Cleansing Method: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=7077
You mix a little almond or avocado oil with a tiny bit of castor oil. You massage it into your face, and counterintuitively, the oil softens tiny plugs in your pores and helps them to come out. You will actually feel grit (the plugs) as they come out. Then I tissue off the majority of oil and follow with super hot washcloths as a compress, wiping all remaining oil off. This is all I use to cleanse my face and it works! My skin looks dewy and radiant afterwards and the method keeps my face free of blemishes. Also it is dirt cheap and way more paleo than using a commercial cleanser.
I will caution that castor oil is drying, so people play with the amount they use to find what their skin likes best. The link I sent should answer any questions if you decide to try it.
for eye makeup, especially dark eyeliner and mascara, i've found that putting a small layer of lotion or moisturizer over it all and then wiping it off with a tissue works best. i use a health-food-store-esque moisturizer like alba or dr weil.
if i have full-on makeup all over my face i'll usually go hardcore and wash it all off with dr. bronners magic soap and a washcloth, then moisturize the heck out of my face. but i'm sure this could be rough on your face if you do it every day or if you have dry skin to begin with. but for the special occasion, it works very well for me.
I don't use a separate makeup remover. I never wear anything waterproof. I find that my regular cleanser with my Clarisonic gets everything out. I don't work too hard to get mascara off. If it stays, it stays. But most everything comes off with regular cleaning.
Fractionated coconut oil is liquid at room temperature, and unlike regular coconut oil, it has no smell. it is lighter in texture than almond oil (which I personally love) You can purchase it fairly cheaply on Ebay, and it is available at some health food stores. As for your almond oil being cold pressed or not, considering the almond oil is only on your skin for a minute before being wiped off, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you were using it all over as a body moisturiser, it might be a different matter.
