I was just outside shoveling and decided to build a snow fort for my four year old. It was so much fun!

It made me wonder how all of you make room for play in your lives? What opportunity did you find to play today?

I am especially interested in responses from people who's activities don't revolve around their children. I realized that if it was not for mine, I don't think I would know how to play at all. I'd love to learn how you manage to find the time and inspiration.

a perfect day to play

Playing with my dog, walking her on trails, off leash, hiding behind trees, playing tag, some training. Dogs are very playful and goofy.

My dog is responsible for 90% of my quality play. – gone2croatan Jan 3 2011 at 14:47

Does rolling around on the floor lifting up a 27 lb. toddler into the air airplane-style count? :)

I took my kids out and towed them on a sled for about half an hour.

I LOVE those pull sleds! Best invention ever. – jenna Jan 3 2011 at 1:47
What are the pull sleds like? I was pulling my niece on a sled recently and the rope was too short -- it hurt my back. – Paul Jan 3 2011 at 2:06
they are called infant sleds (on the label). They work perfectly for my almost-2 and 4 year old, though. They have extra long ropes. I got mine at goodwill for $3 - but they look like this amazon.com/gp/product/B000JSSU78/… – jenna Jan 3 2011 at 2:34
Interesting, thanks. – Paul Jan 3 2011 at 3:38

30ish minutes on a trampoline and a 4 mile walk on trails in the woods bearcrawling up the hills and doing sprints every now and again.

I need to get out on my trampoline more! The kids go out there in their snowsuits and still play on it all winter long. – sherpamelissa Jan 3 2011 at 3:03

truly an excellent adult toy. I'm trying to learn how to be more physically dynamic and doing flips, tumbling, and other non-linear movement on a tramp is a great way to break into it. – kenp Jan 3 2011 at 23:40

I raced my daughter from the car to the store each time today while we were running errands. We ice skated the other day, her first time and the first time I had gone in probably 20 years. She did awesome and we had a blast. We'll be going again soon!

Took a walk to the lake and played around on the ice formations there. (No danger of falling through the ice, don't worry.) Broke off icicles and threw them around. Totally childlike and fun.

Rock climbing! I love this sport. A great full body workout, and it never gets boring. Not to mention cute girls climbing in tank tops in January! :)
