Hello to all my Paleo brethren,
I am looking for some advice. I have been eating Paleo for a couple of months now and whilst I am not super strict I am seeing results and loving it. Paleo was first a diet, now a hobby and starting to become a way of life.
I have thee same thing every morning;
2 rashers of grass fed thick cut un smoked bacon 2 poached free range eggs organic broccoli (handful)
Black coffee with 1 sugar if I am tired. Usually a pint of water.
I have been slowly dry frying my bacon. Recently moved to coconut oil and it tastes great. How much oil should I use?
Is there something wrong with my breakfast? I am usually hungry 2 hours after?
Thanking you all kindly in advance for your help.
I'm recently eating paleo and for what it's worth, I think you need to eat more. Try 3 or 4 eggs and more bacon. Oh, and don't do the sugar thing. Just don't. The caffeine in the coffee should be enough to wake you up. The sugar just does bad things and may be the cause of you being hungry 2 hours later.
I agree with both cutting the sugar (try stevia drops if you really need sweetness in your coffee) and adding full cream (if tolerated). Also, the coffee itself can create a sugar-like spike in insulin (meaning you feel hungry again when it drops off), so I like to add cinnamon or cardamom to my coffee to combat that (plus the fat from cream/coconut cream/butter also help to mitigate the spike as well). I also second (if you cut the sugar and still end up hungus shortly after) the upping of the bacon grease (in all applications, lol) and the food parts of your meal - being that you're a guy.
Forget sugar, try stevia. You can also try eating a little bit of carbs with your protein meal. How about 4 ounces of ground beef with 3 eggs and a small 2 inch potato. 5 eggs, 3 strips of bacon and 2 sausages. Egg and veggie scramble. This may sound nasty but.....have you ever tried buttery eggs with wild salmon and spinach and homemade mustard mixed together? Real good.
My breakfast is about the same with a bit of carbs added. 2 rashers of bacon, then sauté onions and other veggies (spinach, tomatoes, whatever) in the bacon grease. Then two fried or scrambled eggs. On the side a small apple sliced with some almond or cashew butter. enjoy!
Coffee makes hungry, yes, even if it's black coffee, even if it's with a big meal. Because of this, I never have coffee in the morning or afternoon, only evenings before bed.
Coffee and/or sugar is the worst thing you could feed your body if you're tired.
This might sound weird but try eating what you eat now, except without the coffee. Give it a week and see if that fixes the problem (have it later in the day instead, my family and I as a child always drank it after dinner / before bed, and doing that now I find that much more comfortable on my stomach than the morning)
Another thing you could try eating more fat. I'm a very sedentary young woman and given your example meal, I would eat:
6 rashers of grass fed thick cut un smoked bacon
3 free range eggs --- cooked with 3 or 4 tablespoons of fat and making sure the eggs absorb all the fat
I wouldn't eat the broccoli in the morning because I don't want that fiber to interfere with my digestion, but that's my choice (I love, love, love vegetables, so I try to eat plenty with my second meal -- By the way, that's in the context of two meals per day. But my first meal of the day must be the heaviest meal of the day)
