Hey guys, this is my first time on this site, but I was wondering if any of you had an opinion on Dave Asprey's Rapid Fat Loss Protocol. I've been Paleo for a while but I really need to kick start this weight loss. I like the idea of 6 days of "fasting" and then every 7th day a "Refeed" of glucose based paleo carbs and such, and I want to use this method until I achieve my ideal leanness. But has anyone out there tried this? Does it work? Or would I be better off water fasting for 6 days, and then having a "refeed"? Which would result in more fat loss? I feel like any amount of calories would result in less fat loss. Thank you

Dave Asprey's rapid fat loss protocol is:
Eat the bulletproof diet for 2 weeks. I'm sure other posts here explain that, it is not much different from paleo.
After those 2 weeks, drink the coffee+butter combination for each meal for 5 days. Alternately just eat butter/coconut oil/fat. No protein and no carbs for 5 days.
Eat regular food on the 6th day.
Supplement heavily along the way.
Even Dave says that it's safer and better to use his standard diet.
You say you've "been Paleo," but what is your carb intake like? Have you already tried first cutting out most carbs? That might be a simpler approach.
The best advice I would give you is to not do any of these extreme fat loss diets. As someone already pointed out you will end up just putting the weight back on.
Safest bet is to put yourself on a modest calorie deficit (cutting carbs or both carbs and fat). Eat enough protein to maintain lean mass.
Slow and steady will win the race my friend.
Remember this is a paleo site not Men's Health, I don't think promoting losing 10 pounds in 10 days types of diet is what we want to promote here.
You'll be happier and healthier in the end.
I don't know about this particular 'protocol'. Sounds like it sucks, honestly. Therefore, I would fail. I've been doing Asprey's Bulletproof Intermittent Fasting, though, and I give that 'protocol' two emphatic thumbs up. I feel great, look better than I have in 16 years.
I love the coffee so much I can't even imagine not following the rest of the plan.
You do NOT need his products, though. Shop around & buy your own. Just get the best quality you can find/afford and you will succeed.
It is my favorite 'diet'. I won't be eating differently anytime soon.
If you decide on the RFLP please post some progress reports. I'm interested.
I had great initial success with the bulletproof diet, but I now eat a diet that more closely resembles the epi-paleo diet by Dr Jack Kruse. Both excellent diets/protocols. I do believe that Dave's diet is better than the standard Paleo diet.
Hidy...people with the hard work and not giving up answer are not the ones with the serious weight loss issues. We are all unique. The no grain and good fats have been a lifesaver for me. I have never quit and worked hard for over 25 years to find answers for me. This bulletproof intermittent fasting and the rapid weight loss protocol are wonders in my own eyes from how they have helped me more than any other things in all these years.
Rapid Fat Loss Protocol combines a modified cyclical ketogenic diet with MTOR stimulation, mitochondrial optimization, and ongoing toxin binding. The result is massive rapid fat loss with fewer – or no (we think) - metabolic problems associated with VLCD (very low calorie diets). It will combine a 6 day ketogenic phase using Bulletproof Coffee, followed by a 1 day high carb re-feeding.
Here is the skinny on it: It works wonders, with a 'but' attached.
The 'but' is that most of the toxins in your body are fat-soluble, so when you start stripping off fat, they all come out to party. Imagine all the woods near your home getting cut down, all the bears and mountain lions are going to start peaking over your back fence to see if there is a tasty dog or small child in your yard. The sudden release of toxins causes a great deal of stress on your liver, which is why Dave recommends that you eat the BP diet for a few weeks prior and also suggests an extensive list of supplements to support your liver during this process.
If you're going to follow this protocol, do it properly. Otherwise the second or third day is going to SUCK a fat one. You're going to have killer head-aches, mood swings, joint pain... but after about day five, you'll feel like a rock star!
I know I'm a little late to the party, but my experience on the BPRFL protocol has been pretty amazing. I have been at this body recomposition thing for over 2 years! I work out with heavy weights, I do HIITs, I do yoga, I do long, slow low intensity cardio too, I am also educated in nutrition & hold a certification as as health coach - I know a lot about fitness & I continually study & experiment to learn more! Once upon a time I was obese, & it took years of trial & error to get my weight at a healthy place.
I have been strictly focused on body re-composition for about 2 solid years now. It took about 6 months doing Carb Nite Solution to go from 25-18% body fat last summer, then I got bronchitis, was in bed for the month of November, couldn't exercise & body fat shot right back up & had stubbornly teetered there until I tried the BPRFL protocol. 2 weeks on that took me from 24% to 21% & 6 lbs lost! That tells me that I lost 6 lbs of fat in 2 weeks! I can finally see the muscle I've been steadily building that's been buried under fat!
I go to a spin class, & after just one week on the BPRFLP a classmate approached me in astonishment about how I could possibly look so much leaner after just one week!
I am going to repeat it again to my desired leanness, but I do become a bit preoccupied with thoughts of food & my next refeed meal, & I obviously can't keep up with the same level of exercise intensity or frequency when all I'm consuming is coffee & butter, but since I already have good exercise & eating habits already established I do not see a problem with keeping my body fat at my desired % when I go back to simply eating bulletproof.
I agree with the poster who commented that it's those who have not struggled with long stalled plateaus who will dismiss this protocol. For those of us who've tried everything we've come across to break a plateau & shed stubborn body fat, this is a god send!
I've never been a huge fan of these "lose weight quickly" type articles. The problem with most of the methods is that, most people end up putting the weight straight back on.
If you want to lose weight permanently, then visit: http://www.healthandfitnessdiets.com. Thanks to the great diet plans and workout routines, I'm currently in the best shape of my life and look great. Furthermore, the weight is staying off!
However, remember there are no shortcuts or magical secrets to a great body - it's simply a result of hard-work and not giving up!
