So I've read through quite a few threads and some people have said that nuts held back weight loss? But has this been almost everyone or just a few, and is this because of a higher calorie or carb intake? Or just because of nuts I would just like to know how they have been with everyone else, I have 10 kg to lose and due to allergies I already have a pretty restricted variety in food and I do eat a small amount of macadamias and cashews sometimes daily..
For me, it is a twofold problem - they are high calorie, and for whatever reason, I do not find nuts to be at all satiating...so when I eat them they don't fill me up. So I do eat nuts because I like them, but I try to eat them with a meal that includes other satiating foods, otherwise I tend to eat way too many of them.
I daresay palatbility, as linked to caloric density (in part) is likely the issue with nuts for some people. Remember also that cashews have quite a lot of starch in them alongside the fat - no wonder with a bit of salt they are very palatable...! (They're also legumes.)
I personally eat 2 ounces a day alot with an alloted amount of calories and have lost over 20 pounds in the last 3 mints along with eating mostly protein. I don't think they will hold back from any weight loss unless you consume a very large quantity

However, nuts can be very detrimental to weight loss. They are very calorically dense. Typically calorie dense foods are not particularly good for weight loss. The volume of food helps with satiety. Nuts also are pretty high in phytic acid.
For me, the biggest problem is the calories. If I had bought a big tin of nuts, I could down the whole thing without a second thought. So what I would do is package out small snacks of nuts and that is all I would eat. Overtime I found this to be very unsatisfying, 100 calories of almonds is enough to make me want more almonds!
I will still add pecans or almonds or walnuts to a meal as part of a dressing or a coating, but I don't eat them as a snack.
I find nuts to be problematic! Started off at 50kg (1.5yrs ago) then started a weight training routine (this is also where I introduced nuts) and gained ~4kg since (gasp!). Even though I upped my exercise routine from 3 day jog/week (20mins) to 6 days weight training (1h weights, 20mins cardio).
I'm 5'3 and have to count to stay within limits, I use the weight watchers points system (20 per day ~1200ca) with Paleo. So even though I kept the points the same I do believe the nuts played a role? Speculation, but my experience. Going to stick to Meat, Eggs, Veg, Fruit for now and see how it goes (still 1200ca). In the past fruit hasn't given me problems so keeping those around. Tried the limiting thing and only result in cravings => More calories and didn't make a difference. Also struggling with Eczema so maybe another pointer to the nut thing.
Nuts (all except for macadamia) totally stall my weight loss, regardless of calories or carb count. I have no idea why. If I eat fatty meat, some avocado, and macadamia nuts, weight flies off, but if I have the same thing with almonds, I stall out, even when calories are watched super closely. I think it depends on how much you have to lose. I can be impatient so I hate being stalled out, even though almonds are convenient and easily accessible. But for some reason, mac nuts are the exception for me, especially when low carbing. Crazy fast weight loss when I go high fat but keep the total calories in check, and the macs really help with making things interesting. When I am trying to lose weight, I do weigh in daily, which some people don't recommend, but it keeps me focused, so maybe see how a few days goes with the almonds vs. macs and your other macronutrients, and see if it affects you.
