I've been finding that I'm thriving on a small eating window of 6-10 pm every day, and thus fasting for 20 hours between 10pm and 6pm the next day.

Now and then I have lunch or an early dinner, so I'm not doing this 7 days a week. However, at some point this no longer becomes "intermittent."

When?

Are you not hungry at the other times? Is this how you are usually or are you giong "hard core" or working on weight/fat loss? I'm researching how to IF and your style is the kinda of extreme (no judgement just beyond my interest and findings thus far). I'm VERY interested to hear what people have to say. And you. Out of curiosity, what do you eat during your "eating window". Is is a feast? – B-in-Chi Feb 15 2010 at 14:35
I am not hungry during the day, except around 2pm ish, which usually passes. I am working on fat loss. I'm at 195 (down from 240+) and have a goal of 175 or so. As far as what I eat, it's generally a very fatty piece of meat/steak with lots of added butter, fat, coconut milk, etc. along with a salad of some sort. After the main meal I usually have some homemade sushi (nori, mayo, chili sauce, roast beef, and some greens). So, what I don't eat in volume, I make up for with calorie dense fats. – Brian Feb 19 2010 at 14:15

That's fine. Some people (like me) do that. Take a look at the "Fast-5 Diet" and "The Warrior Diet".

Personally, I eat only one meal per day, at about 7:30-8:00, 6 days a week. On Saturday, I give myself a "rest day" and end up eating two meals

Interesting. Since you have started doing that how have your weight and sleep been affected? – Patrik Feb 13 2010 at 6:54
And does it ever lose it's value as intermittent if you're always doing it? – gilliebean Feb 18 2010 at 4:32

I think what you are asking is "If I am fasting most every day until my one late meal, then when does this constant practice cease being called "intermittent".

If you are asking this, then it is always going to be intermittent fasting, because intermittent here refers to you not fasting for days-and-days on end.

That would be extended fasting.

Wikipedia has a pretty good overview: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fasting

Also if extended to over 2-3 days, becoming a full fast, with fully developed ketosis/protein sparing/disappearance of appetite and numerous metabolic adaptations.
