I understand that we are supposed decrease our 6's and increase our 3's. I don't understand the connection between 6/3's with HDL, LDL, and triglycerides. Will a better ratio lower LDL's, raise HDL's, lower triglycerides...or none of the above?

They'll certainly reduce triglycerides. What I think is also interesting though, is that higher cholesterol is associated with better omega 3 status http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2785093/?tool=pubmed Remember to eat your eggs and SFA with your omega 3! Indeed it also beneficial to eat SFA with the o-3, because it improves digestion and absoprtion.

The important thing imo, is that better omega 3 status is connected to better outcomes (i.e. less illness, less death), the fact that it alters certain markers (such as cholesterol) is of secondary importance (although it's nice to know the mechanisms).
