Generally, I have a ritual when I wake up. I try to adhere to it as regularly as possible.
First thing when I wake up I drink 2 tall glasses of water (4 cups, so about 32oz of water.) While I'm sipping on the water, I'll meditate or screw around on the internet and do stuff around the house. During this time, I also drink ginger tea every single morning (haven't missed a day so far since I started doing this like a month ago.) I use a potato peeler to slice the ginger fine, boil it until the water becomes a pale golden color. Maybe light up a J after I've been awake for at least 2 hours. Once in a blue moon I'll make a green smoothie (without fruit), and I'll pour half a barrel of coconut oil in there to mask the taste of the vegetables. I think green smoothies are disgusting, but I drink them anyway. Sometimes I squirt some lemon/lime juice in the smoothie or ginger tea, to get some of that vitamin C all the kids are raving about nowadays.
I usually don't have breakfast, because IFing makes me feel better. If I DO feel like eating food early in the morning, it will generally be eggs or something vegetable-heavy. I try to stay away from more than 10g of protein in the morning. If I'm consuming protein in the morning, I make sure to brew a particularly strong batch of ginger tea to increase my stomach acid production a bit more.
I try to pee at least thrice before leaving the house. I like to see my urine become totally clear before I have my first meal of the day.
I wake up with thoughts of gratitude for another day. I spoke to someone on the phone who is retiring on January 18 after 42 years of doing the same job (I called to get clarity on a bill and he is the person who helped with that.) He said he has done the same thing for 42 years and now he is going to see what he missed during those years. No judgement. It just struck me how I could not do that. I ask myself what is possible for this day, thank God for being me and healthy, (this usually takes about ten minutes) and then I am up to make breakfast and gently prod my nesters out of bed. While I cook, I also drink a liter of water with chlorophyll in it and some lemon and puriphy drops. I make a big breakfast for everyone (this morning it was beef broth with shank meat, kale, sweet potato and 1/2 an avocado each with lemon and salt, and a side of peas. Some mornings it's bacon and eggs, or egg omelet with hard cheese and always a salad of various veggies and avocado). Coffee is made each morning. Some mornings I only have my coffee and heavy cream, other mornings I am ready to eat and HUNGRY! We juice almost every day. Kale, cucumber and celery with a whole lemon is a nice juice that doesn't taste awful. Parsley can be added for extra chlorophyll or cilantro for a metal cleanse. Sometimes a jalapeno gets added for a kick! A morning drive to get the kids to school, a walk or run on the beach a few times a week, and then doing what it takes to earn a living. I try to make the most money in the least hours possible to make life work. I am breadwinner, mom, and responsible for me, all rolled into one.
A smoke and an Irish coffee.
Haha...those were the days. Just regular coffee and a teaspoon of Butter/FCLO. I'm anti-habit though so I purposely do different stuff each morning (guess randomness could be considered a habit eh?).
Wake, sip tepid water from nightstand, walk a bit, void bowels, read a bit, concentrated exercise for 30ish minutes, breakfast if hungry, shower, dress, feed cats, car, drive, work, ... read paleohacks.
I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.
It's too bad no one has answered with quite possibly the best way to start a day:
Orgasm. (Preferably because someone else is in the bed and it wasn't because you "took matters into your own hands," so to speak.)
And no, this isn't the way I start my day. Would be nice if it was, though! ;-)
I've started taking cold showers in the morning. It gives a surprisingly good feeling in the entire body. I will start out with both the hot and cold water on and then turn off the hot in the end.
Interesting morning... sounds like it is working for you though.
I generally wake up, get dressed for work, slam down some water and any supplements I need for the morning. Make some bulletproof Yerba Mate, pack my food for the day, then head out the door by 6:50. Pretty boring but it gets the job done!
If I was more of a morning person I would wake up earlier to meditate, but I enjoy my sleep too much haha.
I wake up before dawn, check Facebook and paleohacks and email while getting dressed, weather network on in the background...the blue light helps me wake right up even though it's dark.
I walk out the door by 3:50, stop in at 7-11 and pick up a coffee, which I drink on the way, and walk 3 miles to work. On the walk, I usually listen to an audiobook or a podcast.
Some days I'll put on some music and dance down the street. I get weird looks from the miners waiting for the mine bus, but it makes me feel good.
I wake up at 5:30, and spend 30 minutes relaxing and drinking lots and lots coffee. I eat a small snack and get dressed. I get my bag for the day ready with my computer and all. Out hte door by 6:25 and arrive to work by 7.
Then I make breakfast at work (beef and eggs usually yumm) and watch good morning america.
