Hi How long is take to fix your health after 2.5 years of abuse?
im 20 years old, birthday is june 7th.
around late summer 2010, i started a habit of going to taco bell everyday. this eventually snowballed into 2.5 years of dietary abuse and junk food addiction that I like to call the "suicide diet."
i kept all of my receipts from 2011 and 2012 from taco bell, mcdonalds, and dominoes. this is how many times i went…
taco bell- 367
taco bell- 398
mcdonalds – 410 (the great summer mcflurry binge)
dominoes – 299
on top of this, id easily go through 2 gallons of soda, whole tubs of ice cream, entire packs of chips ahoy with a galon of milk, etc a day.
I used antibiotics a few times in this period so i suspect possible candida overgrowth amazingly my BMI didnt go above 25 until about a month ago, although im now starting to add more fat than i should.
i feel so sick. im constantly tired, have brain fog, depression, etc.
so monday i adopted a strict paleo diet with sweet potato. all of my meat is 100% grass fed, im doing interrmittent fasting, and im going to stay 100% pure.
how long will it take to undo the damage and feel normal again?
The breakdown is exactly 4.17 months of clean eating for every year of poor decisions.
Damn, looks like you are actually unwell so I can't just leave my smart ass answer. I would recommend getting some starting stats. Whatever your comfortable with (blood work, BF%, vital signs, hip/waist ratio....all for example). Also start a journal of your signs and symptoms and how you generally feel. Now do your strict paleo for 60 days and chronicle changes in your journal on a daily/weekly basis. I actually DO think you should do strict paleo 100% for these 60 days. Do the same with your easily checked parameters such as weight. Check the other things like blood work and such at the end of the 60 days. Now you have objective results as to how well your lifestyle changes are working for you. Rinse and repeat. Health is a journey...you will never reach 100% and just be done with it.
Jeff, many of us were fast food junkies at your age ... although you are admittedly an extreme example. No worries, we are here to help.
IMHO, don't go hellbent on paleo just yet unless you really want to suffer during the transition. Simply stop eating out and start preparing all meals, and I mean every meal, from scratch. And count your daily carbohydrate intake (using online tools such as nutritiondata.com). I suspect you feel sluggish because of excessive carbohydrate intake. Trim down your carb intake each week until it's reasonable (say, twice your protein intake). At that point you can go full paleo, exercise like crazy, and you'll hopefully be good.
I fear if you dive headlong into paleo you will not like the experience, get discouraged and give up.
My thought, the antibiotics restricted your ability to process these highly refined foods and detox them from your body. This is why you see children get away with eating thousands of calories of junk everyday, but as soon as they have a round of antibiotics that metabolic advantage is eliminated. On the other hand that junk is crap!! The PUFAS, gmos, soy, corn, wheat and sugar is a killer. Spring for some grassfed ribeye (even 24 oz) and kill that need to binge. Eat larger, paleo meals and you won't crave that junk.Im not saying calories do or don't count, what I am saying is if you fill your body with enough nutrients satiety will come and you won't crave the junk. Good luck:)
The good news is that you are very young and your body is still extremely resilient. It will take 3-6 months, which isnt bad ( not like you can trade this body infor a detoxed version at the dealership, right?). Here's what I would do. Do a 15-30 day cleanse at the start ( now). You will get much better, faster results. Get a FirstCleanse or Cleanse Smart kit from a health food store ($20-40, was on sale last week @ Whole Paycheck). Follow the instructions and you should be feeling so much better a week from now. The really great news is, having been sick, you won't take your health for granted, right?! Good luck!
