I've been using pitrock for about 8 months now & although its good..it isn't great, i tried making my own but i had mixed results, I will take time to make fermented food but when it comes to deodorant i'd rather just buy some, but i'm not comfortable using regular deodorants...don't get me wrong i'm not asking for Jean Paul Gaultier pits or nothing, just something with a mildly better smell than err..not smelling...here's the list...Ingredients: cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, zea mays (corn) starch, sesamum indicum (sesame) seed oil, beeswax, sodium usnate, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) fruit oil, citrus medica limonum (lemon) peel oil, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) peel oil, pogostemon cablin (patchouli) oil, citrus reticulata (petitgrain) leaf oil, abies sibirica (fir needle) oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, canola oil.
That looks fairly safe to me, all things considered. Only two things caught my (amateur) eye - the sodium usnate and the citrus oils. Here's info on the first - not much! http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ingredient/723972/SODIUM_USNATE/ (That's a great website; you can see if they have the actual product in their database). The issue with the citrus oils is that some are photosensitizers. But I bet what is there is cheap enough (eg. not cold pressed) or processed enough that you'll be okay.
I used the crystal for a long time, then suddenly began getting an allergy to it. So--i make my own: coconut oil, cornstarch, and baking soda. You can include "essences" if you want: i use lemon and lavender. Works great, cheap, and my skin is sooo soft! Just google for DIY deoderants!
I'm using a crystal rock deoderant and I really like it. Maybe it's the same as your "pit rock"? If not, you may want to consider it.
It definitely prevents odor, but it says on the packaging that it is NOT an antiperspirant, so I don't know what I will do come summer. I'm at an age where I'm experiencing "personal summers" as often as 20 times a day, and I'm not having any perspiration stains.
What I like about it:
1. Absolutely NO fragrance. I'm allergic to all sorts of fragrances, citrus included, so this is great for me.
2. Easy to apply with a nice shape just like a solid deoderant, and even though you wet the crystal with water to apply it, I don't feel wet and like I can't put my blouse on right away. 3. Seems to work well during the winter at least.
What I don't like about it: The leftover water from application forms gritty crystals like coarse salt. I had to get a little dish to put it on in the medicine cabinet that I can wash out periodically. It goes on smoothly, these crystals preciptate out as the stick dries after use.
I got it at WF. It's no more expensive than any brand name solid deoderant, and will last a good deal longer.
I use Tom's and Crystal Rock and they both frankly suck. I am married and my husband is attracted to my natural smell, as are the various women/men whomever who I may attract, but it does not compare to regular deodorant in any way. I am sick of smelling like a very sexy hippy.
