Robb Wolf recommends algae supplements for those who can't do fish oil.

Cynarin, what is the ALA/DHA/EPA breakdown like for algae, do you know? – Paul Jan 13 2011 at 19:19
If I recall correctly, it's all DHA, which the body can convert to EPA. – gone2croatan Jan 13 2011 at 20:15
OK, so doesn't have the same problem that many non-animal sources, like flaxseed, have, which is: all ALA, no DHA/EPA (I know that the conversion from ALA is inefficient). – Paul Jan 13 2011 at 22:15

Reduce n-6 by avoiding veg oils, processed food. Favor grass-fed beef and lamb. Consider n-3 eggs.

I think the molecularly distilled fish oils don't contain much in the way of fish. If the allergic reaction is anaphylactic shock, then I wouldn't experiment, but if it's like my nightshade allergy where it just makes me itchy a few hours later, then she ought to try a good quality fish or cod liver oil like Barleans or Spectrum. Alternately, she could just eat a lot of grass-fed ruminant flesh and attempt to remove omega 6 from her diet.

I have heard of Flax seed being a very good substitute, they sell it at most vitamin shops. and even local pharmacies!
