First read Dr. Bernsteins book "The Diabetes Solution". Buy his CD set on Type 1 Diabetes. Listen to it 7 times till memorized. Go to the web http://www.diabetes-book.com/

Read Jenny Ruhl at http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/

You will now know more than your endo.

Set yourself free from doctors. They will only become an addition to your primary education.

Use Quest or Lab Corp for your labs.

Arm yourself, educate yourself. You become your own primary doc. Use others for supplementation. It is not their feet, kidneys, legs ,heart that will be destroyed by high blood sugar and high insulin but yours + increased cancer risk. You can have a more than normal healthy life span if you do this. Good luck.

Does Bernstein's CD set contain information not found in his book? I reviewed the topics covered and there appeared to be substantial overlap. – Nasty Brutish and Short Jan 13 2011 at 16:44
There's a little new info. It is easy listening while working out, driving etc. I have to cram info int every orifice to get it to sink in. Please listen to his free monthly podcasts, always a gem or 4 there. info@diabetes911.net – Andre Chimene Jan 16 2011 at 7:10

As a physician myself I must say Dr. Murdoch from Loma Linda University is awesome!

Jaimie,

Is UC-Irvine close enough? They're fairly evolved as endocrinologists with their clinic. http://www.healthcare.uci.edu/findadoctor/medicalservices.aspx?id=1400.

You might also call Richard K Bernstein's office in NY and ask for a referral.

Jimmy Moore has this list of paleo friendly physicians for the US. I see one in Fountain Valley. http://lowcarbdoctors.blogspot.com/

I'm not sure if he is still practicing, but Dr. Calvin Ezrin is in the Valley.
