I am making a chicken bone broth for my "clear liquids" day before prep. There is usually quite a bit of fat in my broth which I think is filling and delicious. I also do the bulletproof coffee in the mornings. Now upon looking around the internet I see that "fat-free" is the recommendation. Does anyone know how important that actually is??? After all the fat (butter and chicken broth fat) I will be eating will be liquid inside my warm body....
I've used homemade bone broth before a colonoscopy. it's fine. just make sure you have strained it really well.
if anything is left inside you, they have a saline enema they can do to clean it all out.
I have had more colonoscopy procedures than I'd like to admit.
Post colonoscopy the most important thing is to start to rebuild your gut. You will decimate it with the laxatives you have to take during prep.
Bone broth is great, as are probiotics. The "Avoid Fat" is really about avoiding greasy foods which can be tough to digest.
I skim the cold broth, but not zealously. I had no problem drinking about a gallon of homemade bone broth the day before my procedure. If you have any clear, non-red probiotic kombucha, enjoy that, too.
I didn't find the procedure very difficult at all, and bounced right back-- I think the probiotics were key.
To avoid sugar and artificial color, you can substitute electrolyte water (water with added potassium and sodium, no flavoring) for The Gatorade they want you to drink. It was inexpensive at Whole Foods.
I made homemade chicken broth for my son before his procedure, his physician was quite happy with the colon cleanse. Went perfect, my turn now, back to the homemade broth, far more nutritious than the canned salt water sold in the stores. I just freeze it ahead of time and as I thaw it out (microwave) I remove any large pieces of fat. I usually strain the broth before freezing.
