Any ideas for a Paleo shaving alternative? And I don't mean letting hair grow in ;-) Any recipes for a "Paleo" wax or something of the like? I don't just mean beards, I mean other body hair (back, legs, etc.).

I totally stopped shaving my underarms and pubes after going Paleo (much to the horror of some of the younger men and women on this board! ROFL!) But, seriously, if you are talking about your beard, why not just grow it and trim it with scissors? Beards are HAWT! – Blue -the Thrifty Mom Jan 18 2011 at 0:11

I use clippers set to their lowest every day, so I have this 2 day stubble look every day.

I just use an electric razor. I don't think the EMF is all that bad.

As a guy: beards suck way more than shaving; itchy, scratchy---I always feel like I have a squirrel living on my face. Just accept the shaving deal.

If you want a better shave, google 'The Art of Shaving' and buy some of their shaving products...more expensive than supermarket crap, but lasts about 10 times as long, so a much better value.

If you have good skin, you can probably get away with shaving just using their 'pre shave' oil. I'm partial to the shaving soap: great, non-smelly, non chemically shave. Expensive, but each soap probably lasts me 6 months to a year.

I love the Art of Shaving stuff too. I still use a basic shaving soap (or any mild soap) with a shaving brush and mug - what can be more "caveman" than rubbing a dead badger all over your face!? . I would also avoid the trap of MORE BLADES = BETTER SHAVE. After 2 blades, the law of diminishing returns kicks in.

Exactly! After two blades, you're just cutting underneath skin level - just asking for ingrown hairs. Double edged safety razor for the win! – Jayan Jan 19 2011 at 6:31

Well, it's not really an alternative to shaving, but an alternative to using shaving cream. I use coconut oil.

why is shaving bad? I would think waxing would be rougher on your face. You can use olive oil for shaving cream, it works well. I use a single bladed safety razor like a merkur or something. you can get 100 razor blades for 15 bucks on amazon.

Waxing is prohibitively painful for male/cis-gendered beards; the hair is coarse and deeply rooted. Laser treatments will inhibit but not stop growth, and it takes several treatments, which are expensive. The only permanent method of facial hair removal is electrolysis, which is also expensive and painstaking. Depilatories that would be strong enough for facial hair would likely give you chemical burns.

For cis-gendered men, if you don't want a beard, shaving is pretty much it.

I shave only sporadically, prefer the fluff than rash, sensitive responses or ingrown hair. I have very sensitive skin and it sucks. There is rubbing which could work - there are even things to buy. Basically they are very, very fine sandpapers, rubbing in circles gets rid of hair. I have no idea if that would work on beard though, could be too harsh hair.
