So everyone seems to only mention cod liver oil but Green pastures sells Skate liver oil as well. Its hard to find data but from what I can read Skate seems to have less vitamin A and more DHA and vit D. Doesnt this sound like a better mixture then Cod? Why does Skate get no attention....?
Quite frankly I don't understand why FCLO itself has any credibility. I've never seen something so overpriced, over-hyped, and misleading. I've bought all of their products over the years and I always come away asking the same question... "Why did I buy this?"
From a practical standpoint there is no comparison: FCLO OR FSLO have ONE gram of fish oil per serving! On the flip side, half a fillet of salmon (192g) has a minimum of 4 grams of omega 3, plus vitamins, minerals, aminos, antioxidant carotenoids (astaxanthin) etc etc.
From a health perspective I think that FCLO/FSLO "benefits" are even more dubious. The chemical structure of DHA makes it very fragile and easily oxidized. If there is one thing everyone can agree on its that oxidized oils are extremely bad for us. The only fool proof way to get high quality non-oxidized DHA is to keep it fresh, unprocessed, and in natures natural biologic package...fish.
There's a reason that the products are loaded with anti-microbial/anti-fungal preservative oils (orange oil, cassia oil, etc etc). Fermentation is usually associated with probiotics and these harsh preservatives effectively nullify that....
I realize that people take the oils because they don't think they can eat it everyday. But honestly I'd rather eat a pound of salmon once or twice a week than to slowly poison myself with FCLO/FSLO....
