My girlfriend is about to start "Insanity" and asked me to create a post inquiring as to the PaleoHacks community favorites for Pre and Post workout meals. Preferably simple and quick. THANKS EVERYONE!
I think pre-workout meals are a terrible idea. I usually try not to eat anything at least 3 hours pre-workout. Post workout...lots of white potatoes, jasmine rice, chicken gizzards, and chicken...kind of bland and low fat but it pays off in the long run & very easy to prepare.
I workout in the morning so this is typical
Pre: apple sauce mixed with whey protien and coconut oil chunks. Digests quick and gives me fuel. heres some other options
some eggs and bacon
eggs with some berries
Post: sweet potato/yam with any protein!
I like really intense workouts, so prefer to have nothing in my stomach. If I do eat, it's at least 2 hours beforehand, in which case it doesn't matter much.
Post workout I like carbs and lots of nutrients, so sweet potatoes, banana with almond butter, and yogurt with blueberries are all on the heavy rotation. I really don't like processed foods or powders or smoothies but if I'm desperate I'll have a protein shake, which even though it's protein hits my system so fast I consider it to be a carb/sugar.
