Drinking heavy cream in tea/coffee is easy enough and I understand some people add HC to eggs and make shakes of sorts. Does anyone have any other recommendations?
I have trouble drinking it plain and I'm veering away from even decaf coffees and teas because of my extreme sensitivity to caffeine. I have found HC goes well in black teas, but if anyone has herbal suggestions that take well to cream, please let me know.
Thanks for any advice you have!
Heavy cream makes for a very quick sauce. Cook your meat or fish in the skillet and then when it's cooked, take out the meat and add some cream to the juices still in the skillet. If the juices are very water, cook them down to a thicker consistancy before adding the cream. Cook on a light simmer for just a few minutes while stirring and you have a lovely cream sauce. You can also add other things to the sauce like butter, mustard, lemon, etc, depending on taste preferences. Another nice one is to cook some finely diced onion in the juices first before adding the cream. Yum! Cream is also the bomb in a smoothie or most blended drinks.
It's not so much a drink this way but i like to pour it over berries and eat with a spoon. Or you can also whip it up first for that familiar air-filled dessert texture.
Another way to have it with eggs is to pour some heavy cream in your bowl before mixing up your scrambled eggs, the way some normal folks use milk.
since youre already doing cream, might as well add some grassfed cheese and make an Alfredo Sauce.
1 Large Organic Pastured Egg.
1 Cup of Heavy Cream (preferably Raw Organic A2)
1/2 Cup of Grassfed Cheese (I like Kerrygold's Dubliner for this)(sam's/costco)
1/2 Cup of Kerrygold Butter.
Its Grassfed Fat blended with Grassfed Fat and some Grassfed Fat and a good egg... Heat it all up on the stove and its AMAZING.
besides being an awesome flavor addition to my espresso/coffee, its also good for tea.
Just be careful that you arent using Heavy Cream to Overindulge. Its still very high calories and liquid. Use it during a non meal time, and make sure that you are waiting till hungry to eat again, or you might be inadvertently swallowing additional calories that your body is not adjusting for.
Chai tea aside, I can't think of any herbal drinks that will not taste awful with heavy cream.
One way of getting heavy cream into your diet is simply to dilute it with water to create a drink that tastes just like full fat milk. This is good for those new to Paleo and unaccustomed to the initially "claggy" mouthfeel of lots of fat. Another way is too make hot chocolate: blend a few heaped teaspoons of pure cocoa powder with boiling water to create a paste. Top up with boiling water to create an intensely chocolatey drink, which you can dilute with heavy cream to taste. This is also easy to drink, and great for the odd stray chocolate craving.
Have you considered making ice-creams or custards? Heavy cream + egg yolks + flavouring of choice = delicious and easy Paleo treat.
I use it with all teas green, black, or otherwise, INCLUDING Ice Tea.
In our house, smoothies are real popular. Berries, especially blue berries work well with heavy cream. Also, if you mix frozen berries with heavy cream and blend it, it gets a very ice cream type texture and feel. Stevia or honey for a little added sweetness.
