Drinking heavy cream in tea/coffee is easy enough and I understand some people add HC to eggs and make shakes of sorts. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

I have trouble drinking it plain and I'm veering away from even decaf coffees and teas because of my extreme sensitivity to caffeine. I have found HC goes well in black teas, but if anyone has herbal suggestions that take well to cream, please let me know.

Thanks for any advice you have!

Why do you want to drink more heavy cream? – mari Jan 23 2011 at 15:58

I understand it's a good way to increase my fat intake relative to my protein intake. – CheshyCat Jan 23 2011 at 21:02

It's not so much a drink this way but i like to pour it over berries and eat with a spoon. Or you can also whip it up first for that familiar air-filled dessert texture.

Another way to have it with eggs is to pour some heavy cream in your bowl before mixing up your scrambled eggs, the way some normal folks use milk.

I like the eggs idea. I will definitely try it. Thank you! – CheshyCat Jan 23 2011 at 21:02
i routinely pour heavy cream over berries/fruit and eat with a spoon. my favorites are blueberries, a small banana sliced up, or even some strawberries. also, adding a tiny amount of raw sprouted pecans really tops it off. – Jack Kronk Feb 17 2011 at 18:34
I pour it over frozen blueberries. The cream freezes around them and it is awesome. I am thinking of making blueberry/HC icecubes. – coffeeandcream Aug 1 2011 at 14:32

I have between 250 - 500 ml of whipped cream (sometimes with berries) per day, I love that stuff :)

Heavy cream makes for a very quick sauce. Cook your meat or fish in the skillet and then when it's cooked, take out the meat and add some cream to the juices still in the skillet. If the juices are very water, cook them down to a thicker consistancy before adding the cream. Cook on a light simmer for just a few minutes while stirring and you have a lovely cream sauce. You can also add other things to the sauce like butter, mustard, lemon, etc, depending on taste preferences. Another nice one is to cook some finely diced onion in the juices first before adding the cream. Yum! Cream is also the bomb in a smoothie or most blended drinks.

I loooove the cream sauce idea! Sounds delicious! Thanks. – CheshyCat Jan 23 2011 at 21:04
Cook bacon, chop it up, return it to the pan and pour in cream. Cook just a few minutes, and you have a pretty awesome bacon cream sauce. – Harfatum Jan 24 2011 at 4:25

I love doing this. I also add some sour cream and grated cheese for a lovely thick creamy sauce. – Alan Aug 2 2011 at 9:46

Chai tea aside, I can't think of any herbal drinks that will not taste awful with heavy cream.

One way of getting heavy cream into your diet is simply to dilute it with water to create a drink that tastes just like full fat milk. This is good for those new to Paleo and unaccustomed to the initially "claggy" mouthfeel of lots of fat. Another way is too make hot chocolate: blend a few heaped teaspoons of pure cocoa powder with boiling water to create a paste. Top up with boiling water to create an intensely chocolatey drink, which you can dilute with heavy cream to taste. This is also easy to drink, and great for the odd stray chocolate craving.

Have you considered making ice-creams or custards? Heavy cream + egg yolks + flavouring of choice = delicious and easy Paleo treat.

Great ideas. Thank you. I will definitely try pure cocoa + heavy cream. – CheshyCat Jan 23 2011 at 21:05

I've seen some nice Pumpkin Spice teas that would be great with heavy cream. I myself could probably eat a bowl of whipped cream every day!

since youre already doing cream, might as well add some grassfed cheese and make an Alfredo Sauce.

  • 1 Large Organic Pastured Egg.

  • 1 Cup of Heavy Cream (preferably Raw Organic A2)

  • 1/2 Cup of Grassfed Cheese (I like Kerrygold's Dubliner for this)(sam's/costco)

  • 1/2 Cup of Kerrygold Butter.

Its Grassfed Fat blended with Grassfed Fat and some Grassfed Fat and a good egg... Heat it all up on the stove and its AMAZING.

besides being an awesome flavor addition to my espresso/coffee, its also good for tea.

  • Throw some in a blender...then dollop it on top of a small bowl of strawberries. mmmm.

Just be careful that you arent using Heavy Cream to Overindulge. Its still very high calories and liquid. Use it during a non meal time, and make sure that you are waiting till hungry to eat again, or you might be inadvertently swallowing additional calories that your body is not adjusting for.

edited with pagebreaks for clarification of separation. Alfredo berries would be a little odd. Alfredo coffee, right out the window. – Stephen-Aegis Jan 24 2011 at 22:20

Ha, ha, thanks. For a moment there I thought that I'd stumbled across some obscure, cult foodie trend, sipped only by the crustiest trustafarians in hipster dive bars. Mind you, I wouldn't be surprised if one of these days Starbucks launchess the skinny alfredo soy caramel frappucino, available in 20, 30 and 40 gallons*. *25% discount on Metformin with every return purchase. – Simibee Jan 24 2011 at 23:15

One of my favorite drinks is two ounces of Heavy Cream, one raw egg, two packs of equal, and a drop of vanilla. I beat it all together with a fork, then pour it over crushed ice. I drink it for a snack or even a meal replacement.

I use it with all teas green, black, or otherwise, INCLUDING Ice Tea.

In our house, smoothies are real popular. Berries, especially blue berries work well with heavy cream. Also, if you mix frozen berries with heavy cream and blend it, it gets a very ice cream type texture and feel. Stevia or honey for a little added sweetness.

mix it with some water. or drink it straight after you purchase it from the shop. or drink it with eating some good fruit with it.

i just think of nice heavy cream with cinamon and apple.what i also did or maybe ihavent done yet to mix heavy cream with pasture creams eaten by the cow. Like yarrow clover, dandilion, this is a fancy taste what i remember. especially dandilion and heavycream.

or what i did last time beat heavy ream to whipping and blended ripe bannanas under it. maybe next time i do it with dates.

best wishes enjoy your cream

An almost daily snack for me is a single square of very dark chocolate followed by a nice healthy slug of heavy cream.

Two ways that I use it are in smoothies and in cream of whatever (insert your veggie here) soup.

On the rocks with some kahlua and vodka is pretty good, if you're into that sort of thing.

It's amazing in soups (butternut squash bisque and creamy tomato come to mind). I also like to make homemade whipped cream and throw that on paleo pancakes, mix it with berries, or put it on my espresso...hmmm.

I often use two or three hundred ml of cream and 6 raw eggs in the blender for a high power after workout drink.

If you're okay with a little bit of carb, I really like to make hot cocoa with about equal parts cream and half-and-half. No-Sugar-Added cocoa powders actually taste really good this way.

Also, if you like ice cream, cut it with heavy cream to soften the sugar impact.

Make a quick wine-gravy by reducing cooking wine (sherry and merlot are great) and adding heavy cream, heating until it thickens. Great on chop steak with caramelized mushrooms and onions.

Not entirely paleo, perhaps, but tasty nonetheless.

You can also do some really tasty things with cream cheese and butter, but that's another thread.

All those answers and I still have another idea!

I make home-made extra-fat yogurt, 3 parts whole milk to a part heavy cream. It's VERY smooth and tasty. Unlike store-bought (even plain) it actually tastes like a dairy product with no funny after-tastes.

I also use heavy cream in my coffee with a tsp of local honey.
