So I think I'm getting my third bout of bronchitis in 8 weeks. I really don't want to go on antibiotics AGAIN. I'm already doing the oil of oregano in the nostrils and breathing deeply. I keep trying to take a few teaspoons of coconut oil, but I really can't stand the texture (trying to get used to it). And I've been told that upping my vitamin D3 to around 20K for the next few days will likely help. As of tomorrow, I'm on a VLC (<25g/day) challenge, sick or not. Oh, and I'm using my husband's codeine cough syrup to make sure I get some sleep :P Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I'd definitely lower carb intake. I saw a study a while back showing that sugar intake drastically reduces white blood cell function by an order of many magnitudes. It was just plain scary. However, I would in your condition (ie sick) not make sudden drastic changes. If you are moderate carb, just cut back, but you don't want to go into lowcarb flu on top of regular illness. The other thing you can do is isolate your carb intake to one time of day, maybe lunch time. This will keep your glycogen supplies up but still give the body a large portion of the day to operate without carb intake. When you are sick, I think that is a good time to take the cautious road. Improve your diet. Eat the healthiest choices like organ meats. Cut back on diary. Lay out in the sun daily. Take it easy and get tons of rest. And don't do anything that will stress your body further. |

I don't think low carb is a good idea at all. You need carbs to produce mucus. Get some carbs from starch. |

It sounds like your immune system is really weak right now. I agree with supplementing with Vitamin C. Take 1-2 grams of the crystals every two hours in water. When your body is extremely low on Vitamin C, it will be able to absorb more at a greater frequency. Back off slightly when you reach bowel tolerance. Continue for several days. I also recommend Buried Treasure's ACF formula which contains various herbs using in boosting the immune system. Definitely, increase your Vitamin D3 for the next few weeks. Vitamin D levels usually drop in the winter due to lack of sunlight. For those living North of Atlanta, it is nearly impossible to get enough from sunlight any time of the year. I would also stay away from sugar and mucus inducing foods, especially dairy. Stick to meat, veggies, animal fat, and coconut oil. To make the coconut oil easier to eat, saute some veggies in it or have it in a hot beverage. Also, make yourself some ginger tea. Steep fresh sliced ginger in hot water. The hot ginger tea should be soothing and make it easier to breathe. You can also put the coconut oil in the ginger tea. If you have been taking antibiotics for the previous occurrences of bronchitis, you have probably wiped out all the good bacteria in your gut and really need some high-quality probiotics. |

I found it very useful to have lots of vitamin C in my case from large orange and lemon consumption (from the whole fruit plus using lemons at salads). Also drinking lots of water and nebulization helped a lot, and at some point tea or vaporisation from eucaliptus leaves and chamomile. I must admit though that at some point, about two weeks ago I had to use antibiotics for the first time in two years because fever associated with the bronchitis was coming back. I have found though that if you need to use antibiotics it is critical to use something that is effective for you, since you may have resistance to some of the most used ones as tetracyclines or amoxicycilin. BTW do you smoke or have smoked in the past? |

#1 thing: Sleep. Pitch dark room. 8-10 hours. Make this a priority. Don't focus on VLC or exercise. Just get tons of rest and reduce stress. And avoid sick people, and wash your hands a lot. |
