I couldn't have picked a worse time to get back on the paleo horse, but here we go.
I recently had some major expenses that depleted my savings, so I'm back to living paycheck to paycheck, and scrounging.
I've got $20 to spend on food for the next sixteen days. What should I buy?
I weigh 400lbs at 5'10'', so it's not like I'm gonna' waste away. I just need some good ideas to keep me from giving up and using the dollar menu from the king, the colonel, and the clown!
16 days (just over 2 weeks) isn't too bad. My suggestion, organic coconut milk (1000 calories a can). You already have a good meat supply and get a dozen or two eggs and you have some great combinations.Don't waste your money on veggies and fruit when your in a crunch. You want the cheaper, most nutrient dense food. That would be grassfed ground beef, eggs, coconut milk and maybe some sardines if you like them (1$ a can, wild, atlantic). Ketosis is really good to get back on track and to cut the weight pretty quickly. As you get closer you can add a couple more carbs. Also, try to make some money through odd jobs. Offer to help cut your elderly neighbors lawn or help out with peoples repair jobs if you can.
if I were in your shoes, i'd pick up eggs (just regular, not organic), cans of tuna, trader joe's coconut milk cans (only 99 cents a can), and cheese/yogurt.
since you are looking to do low carb, I didn't suggest anything like sweet potatoes or even rice (which is super cheap) just because they are carb bombs.
but, I have seen 99 cent bags of brown bananas at the grocery store. those are always the ones I get because I freeze them for smoothies.
just drink a lot of water or tea to at least keep your stomach thinking it's full.
I don't know what stores you have by you, but aldi's is by far the cheapest grocery store I've been to. when I shopped there before trader joe's came to town, they had 99 cent pineapples and $3 bags of 10 oranges. all conventional produce, but it's cheap.
I really hope you can stick to it though for the next two weeks! that must be really hard with having so few dollars to spend. good luck!
So, to save money and lose weight, I'd skip breakfast and instead just drink coffee with lots of coconut milk that you already have. Cook up those meats and veggies in the freezer and eat 1-2 small meals per day. Sometimes I go to farmers markets late in the day, when the vendors are breaking down their booths and they will give away most of the leftover veggies free or at drastically reduced prices. And, you can pool your resources (food in freezer) with friends and see what interesting meals you can come up with.
