I am VERY VERY new to this whole Paleo idea. I guess you can say I am easing my way into it. I had stopped eating red meat way over 10 years ago -- but just added grass fed meat back into my diet. I guess i have a few questions:

1) Since I will be eating diary -- mostly raw cheese, cream and of course butter/ghee. I guess I wd be considered Lacto-Paleo?? Are there any good books or blogs you cd reccomend-- I already have been on PANU & Mark's Daily Apple.

2) I have actually gained weight so far -- it has been about 2 weeks-- but some previous stomach issues have cleared up. What am I doing wrong? Or do i just have to wait and let my body re-adjust to this new life style?

3) I exercise a lot-- just because I enjoy it so much -- prob 2 to 3 hours a day or different activites-- am I doing too much?

4) I am sure I will have lots more questions -- so bear with my ignorance.

Perfect health diet is a good book/blog. They are lacto paleo. The blogs Hyperlipid, Health Correlator, Whole health source, primal wisdom, hunt gather love, and the daily lipid are all good. They all have slightly different approaches, and you can piece your own together after reading all of the different opinions.

Hope that helped.

+1 for PHD book and blog, Hyperlipid, and Whole Health Source blogs. This Paleohacks thing is pretty cool, too. – stoic Jan 30 2011 at 20:35
Excellent recommendations! To add one more to your list, Dr. Harris' PaNu blog (paleonu.com/get-started) is another great lacto-paleo friendly resource. Lots of good info there. – Kimmie Jan 30 2011 at 21:53
Yes, panu is by far and away my favorite. She said she had already been there though. – mari Jan 30 2011 at 23:38
Haha - teach me to just skim the question! – Kimmie Jan 31 2011 at 1:16

I would stick with PaNu (unless you simply have a lot of free time on your hands); the getting started page is excellent for getting started (imagine that).

In terms of your weight gain, I would initially go very-low-carb by increasing fat and lowering carbs (eat 3+ Tbs of coconut oil daily for the MCTs); once your body adapts to burning fat for energy efficiently and it is no longer craving carbs, add back carbs in moderation. My guess is this will reverse any weight gain you've experienced this far, and leave you feeling better with more energy.

Your workouts, at 2 to 3 hours, are way too long as well. Start doing very-high-intensity interval training instead. 2 to 4 days per week should do it. I like 45 sec intervals myself, usually running or swimming.
